If I can get the stock SRT8 catted mids for a good price, it'll let me buy a nicer 3" single cat-back and then have a shop modify it to work.
the factory srt mids are true dual so you will need to add a y adapter into the exhaust to make it work

Yeah, I noticed that - in the grand scheme of things, it's easier to build a Y to get a catback to bolt up rather than modifying midpipes every time. It also would let me keep the option of upgrading the midpipes later down the line.

On the flipside, does anyone know how far off the WK/XK stock style Y pipe is from bolting up to the SRT manifolds? I'm not going to use a stock pipe, but I see Magnaflow makes a high-flow replacement that might be easily adaptable if it's not too restrictive. I would just need to know the outlet diameter of the SRT header (which I can measure when they arrive) and then call magnaflow and see how big the top of the midpipe is. If it's just a simple matter of welding in a 1" extension on one side to get the width right, then I would totally do that - then the rest of the exhaust would be an exact, direct bolt on (which would be ideal).

-Brad

EDIT: Nope, SRT8 Cat-back probably wouldn't work for what I want to do. Unedited!

You would need to shorten the mids quiet a bit for them to bolt up right, let alone it fitting on the srt manifolds

What catback exhausts would this bolt up to? Single or Duals from the catback?

I'd be more interested if you had this for the 3.7 v6 and it was long tunes. Other than that your spamming people's threads. That's why you have gotten little or no response. Make yourself a dedicated thread for them and provide full details vs having people msg you. Price and everything being known sells bro

So, finally, I am 90% done with my exhaust upgrade. For the benefit of the forum members, I will share my experience and parts used to get this project done. I started by finding a good pair of SRT8 exhaust manifolds from a JGC. I had these headers dipped in sulphuric acid then polished to a mirror finish. I also purchased a pair of Down pipe SRT8 flanges from an LX forum member which happen to mate perfectly to the headers flanges of a JGC SRT8. That opens up options if you decide to embark on this project since there are more LX SRT parts available. I purchased M8 5cm stainless steel bolts and serrated nuts to mount the headers. I also used high temperature thread compound on the bottom half of the bolts to insure that they won't come loose. Since I have a 2009 JGC Hemi and have the VVT heads, I decided to use the 6.1L SRT8 Mopar gaskets which line up perfectly with the head and headers. I had all this installed which took about a full day then started the Jeep. The sound was so loud it scared me into immediately shutting the engine off. I mustered some courage to start it later, and the next day I drove it to a muffler shop to start building the rest of the exhaust system. I decided to use the stock CATs. I also decided that I want to use stainless steel 3" pipes all through and the full custom exhaust system work started. The Y pipes were built piece by piece. The stock pipes were cut off where they weld into the CATs and the holes on the CATs were made larger to accommodate 3" tubing. O2 bungs were welded into the pre CAT pipes in the proper place, so I can use the existing, stock O2 sensors and harness. I used the existing bungs on the stock CATs to mount the other O2 sensors, so basically I am running all 4 O2 sensors in their original exact locations and original harnesses. Once the Downpipes and Y connection pipe were built, they connected into a Magnaflow 12589 3" single inlet, 3" single outlet oval muffler. I have 3" tubing running all the way from the muffler to the rear bumper following the same routing as the original tubing but with no resonator yet, which I may add on later if I decide the droning is too much on long trips. The whole system was polished into stainless steel mirror finish. So far, driving the Jeep in city traffic is awesome and the sound of that system is simply intoxicating. Butt dyno says that the Jeep has gained more power. It accelerates faster, it sounds meaner yet feels smoother and at ease when pulling hard. I believe this is the best upgrade I have made to my JGC but it is not quite done yet. As I said, it is 90% done, with rest is yet to be decided whether I want to add a resonator or not, what shape of a resonator to choose and what style tips to use. If the sound with the MDS on is acceptable on long trips, then I will consider myself done with this. I will be posting some pictures later as well for your visual delights.

Re: SRT Headers + Mid pipes + custom cat back dual exhaust = DONE

I'd like to see some pictures!

Did you have to grind/clearance the transmission bellhousing at all for the passenger side header to fit? From everyone else's thread that I've read, that's necessary - the headers won't bolt up flush to the head otherwise.

What did you do about the EGR system?

Re: SRT Headers + Mid pipes + custom cat back dual exhaust = DONE

It is looking good!

Is there a particular reason you didn't buy an GC SRT-8 Catted Midpipe, and then just fab up the exhaust from the cats back? Apparently you just need to space down the transmission crossmember on each side (a few new, longer bolts, and a few spacers) or dent the pipe for it to fit, and would've made it a bit easier on yourself.

My plan (eventually, who knows when I'll actually get around to it) is to do the SRT8 midpipe, and then buy the first muffler and pipes that connect it to the cats. At that point, I'm going to get a pair of Commander specific tail pipes in the right diameter, and a 2-in-2 out muffler, and leave it as stock looking as possible with turndowns tucked up behind the bumper. Stealth!
