Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

My idling issues may be a bad tune from inertia... Or a problem with he torque converter

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

Sooo I have on 08' 5.7 and want to put a 2010 SRT manifold on...is that an easier sway than an 05-07 to 08-10? Would I need to get a new gasket? Anything else? Please help as I would like to do this asap

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

08 same port shape, square, as earlier models. D shape port didn't come out until 09.
You will need all new shorter flange head bolts and make a bracket up for the dip stick.
Also grind in the EGR slot. See my build on here as just covered it all.

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

Get new head gaskets, new head bolts for starters... Both are not reusable. You will need a good torque wrench, probably 3/8 would work best. You also need the fuel line disconnect tool to get the intake manifold off. Other than that, all kinds of extensions and pivots. A good 8mm small wrench for pesky rear head cover bolts. There are good write ups on lx forum for head change. Make sure you clean your surfaces extremely well and torque the srt8 manifolds to proper specs. Make sure no crap gets into the head bolt holes when the heads are off, this will cause your torque specs to be off. Take a few pics of your pistons and show me, I wanna see if they are as cruddy as mine were. You might want to start the engine with the mid pipes off to make sure that you don't have a head gasket leak. Coolant and cats don't mix we'll... If you do you'll get some codes no 02 sensors. When you satisfied that your gaskets are tight and good, you'll need to have flanges in hand to weld onto your current mid pipes after the have been shortened. Drive around for a few days, then check head bolts again.

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

You will need new flanges for your mid pipes... I thought a company made some... I forgot their name. Ill look into it. Otherwise take the srt8 manifolds to a good metal fabrication shop and have them make something. A small hacksaw to trim the transmission a little too. Some jb weld to plug up any hole made in the transmission.

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

Stage 6 motorsports and stainless works make srt8 flanges. Give them a call though, they may be for the muffler and not the manifolds/headers. I cut mine off magnaflow srt8 mid pipes that don't fit, I bought them from wundercarparts and got the price on them down to 475. You may be able to pick up mids from an lx cheaply, and cut the flanges off them... Although I don't know if they match or not. Jeep Srt8 mid pipes are extremely rare, and the srt8 mid pipes fit like crap on our 5.7s. I know because I have some and had to drop the transmission support with spacers like 2 inches... And it had only a 1/10 of an inch clearance from tranny pan. Maybe call magnaflow direct and see if they will sell you the flanges to mate with the manifolds.

Hey man, that link to your build helped a lot. I have srt8 manifolds that I'm throwing on to my 05 5.7L. What did you use to grind down the port for the egr hole? Where does one get those bolts you used?

If I read it correctly, the best way for this to mate up is to use an 09+ gasket?

Is that correct?

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

09 gasket has identical egr hole to older ones... But has d shaped ports. Funny thing is the 09 eagle engines don't even have an egr.

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

You gonna pull the heads? You have to get a small grinder, possibly a dremel or something like that. Outline the hole on the exhaust manifold and grind away. I took mine to a metal working shop and they did it for free... Literally takes two seconds. Just wish they had tapered it to be bigger and slightly deeper.

Yes you are best off with the 09 gaskets. I will use those when it gets put back together after everything gets painted.
I just used a die grinder to make the hollow for the EGR with a carbide burr bit.

Used the third from the right.

The flange bolts were just from the local auto parts store. Just came in packets of 4.

Ok so you're saying use an 09 5.7L gasket?

Did you have any trouble with the egr since then? Any pictures of the tranny cut that is needed?

I think you had said use an srt8 gasket? I'm confused now.

So the bolts you got from the auto parts store, are they all the same size? You mentioned you need 17?

Re: Srt manifolds on an 09 hemi

Yes, use 09 5.7 gaskets. What are you going to do about the mid pipes? Do you have the flanges needed to connect them to your current mid pipes? With the tranny cut... Just take a half inch off, place the head and srt8 manifold on and see if you have enough clearance. If you don't trim a little more. Don't take too much off, their will be a big gaping hole there if you do. It will be very easy to see what needs to happen once you get to that point and see it with your own two eyes. The tranny cuts like butter, it's aluminum. My egr is fine, the code is sporadic and my idling issues are due to my cam and tune.

I ordered all the parts from wholesalemopar.com in Florida. They have great prices on all mopar parts and are very helpful. Just make sure you order early because shipping ground is the only way to save money. The mopar manifold bolts come with a little antiseize already on them. There is also a plac in Dallas that sells cheap mopar stuff. Both these places are dealerships that undercut everyone online.
