Re: srt8 exhaust comversiona GC overland

Since you have the "complete" SRT setup, you'll have some additional problems with the install. The "How To" above primarily addresses the cat. back part of the system. With the headers, you'll have to address EGR Valve issues (the SRT doesn't have one) and clearance issues on the passenger side header. On the cat. back, the SRT outlets sit lower (bumper opening is several inches lower than the stock WK bumper) so the system will have to be slightly modified (not a big deal), you just won't be able to carry the existing spare or have a trailer hitch capable of hauling the same weight the stock one does.

There are threads on the SRT header install on some of the Jeep Forums, but essentially what you'll have to do is grind a notch (in the header flange) between the No. 2 exhaust port (front passenger side) and the EGR port in the cylinder head. It'll have to be deep enough to allow adequate flow of exhaust gasses through the EGR Valve and into the intake. If it's not deep enough, you'll get EGR malfunction codes. There is a clearance issue with the passenger side SRT header hitting the transmission case. The SRT's use the NAG1 transmission and the 5.7's use the 545RFE transmission. A small part of the the case (I think bellhousing) needs to be cut away so the header will clear. The bolt-up to the cylinder head is not a problem, except for the extremely tight clearance between the head and the frame rails. Exhaust ports do not completely match up, but the SRT ports are larger overall. I would guess that this install will net you between 15-25 noticeable hp.

As I said, the best thing is to do the search to get the straight scoop from those that have done the install. On mine, I had custom, ceramic coated tubular headers with a 3 in. single cat. back (straight through) built for my 5.7, run the stock spare, and have the SRT bumper with a reenforced stock hitch. Let us know how it goes, and good luck with the install.

Re: srt8 exhaust comversiona GC overland

On this forum, I think DannyVtCa has done this swap. You may want to check with him. Say "hi" to him for me. I haven't seen him on here lately.

Edit: Here you go.....EGR notch on SRT8 manifolds

IIRC, Danny had a problem caused by not making the groove deep enough, and he wasn't getting enough exhaust gas flow through the EGR Valve. You may want to search his screen name for that one too.

Edit Again: Look at Danny's post No. 7 here.....Heads, Cam, Exhaust

Re: srt8 exhaust comversiona GC overland

Put the gasket up to the head and match it with the EGR hole in the head. IIRC, it is the larger hole. Also, see if you can PM Dan to see how deep the notch should be.
