Re: Strength of 545rfe

Yes, lots of trial and error, but it should all be in concert with your mods. I am guessing 375-400 hp at the motor on mine. Stock 5.7 WK's will do about 170 to the rear wheels. That's about 220 at the engine with the stock exhaust, figuring 30% loss. Stock Hemi LX's usually do 180-200 hp at the wheels (same engine components), but they have a better exhaust, which helps. Yes, a longer stroke means more torque, but usually won't rev. as well. Torque is what you need more of to haul the heavy WK around.

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Bro, I think your numbers are off quite a bit. A stock 5.7 on a jeep gc 2005-2008 makes 330 Hp at the motor, and 293 at the rear wheels. 2009-up was increased to 360hp due to Vvt. I have done a lot of research on these motors. But your guess on your motor might be pretty accurate though.

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Sorry, it was late last night when I wrote that. Yes you're right.....add 100 to all those numbers....it should be 270 to the rears, 330 at the engine, and the stock LX's 280-300 at the wheels. After I looked at that this morning, I said, Oops!! I've never heard of any completely stock WK (w/stock exhaust) making anything above about 270-275 though....unless maybe it was a 2WD and didn't suffer from the 4WD parasitic loss.

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Yeah your right the 293 is with the transfer case motor removed so its straight 2wd, since its so hard to find a 4wd dyno these days. With 4wd its about 270. Hey btw where did you buy your srt8 front bumper, and for how much?

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Got both of them from Cleveland Pick-A-Part (auto salvage late model car parts). IIRC, both front and rear together were about $1000 with everything needed to mount, including lights.....front and rear fogs. They shipped them out in a nicely made wood crate.

Re: Strength of 545rfe

They don't seem to have any right now but I will keep checking. Do you think the rear bumper is worth it over the stock?

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Probably not, unless you like the look. I like the rear fogs. I have them set up as additional brake lights. Hope everyone can see when I put the brakes on now, with 5 lights and one flashing 4-5 times. The stock trailer hitch won't work because the SRT bumper is taller. It does make it easier to hide the exhaust too though. On mine you can't even see the outlet. It turns down just before the bumper. IMO, that looks a little cleaner. I'll be taking both front and back off, maybe this week, so I can extend the hitch and fill the stock front license mount holes since I've moved it. Then I'll get them repainted. The front one has lots of rock chips too, so I think it's about time.

Best thing to do if you're after the bumpers is give them a call. They're getting new stuff in all the time. I also got my Daytona Charger muffler (straight through as opposed to triple pass) for my LX there. IMO, the best deals in town, but still not always cheap.

Re: Strength of 545rfe

Ats diesel apparently sells a 545rfe that's built with a 5 year warranty, which is indisputable. I'm thinking that and an edge billet torque converter say 2800 stall?

Re: Strength of 545rfe

You'll certainly have fun with that setup, but have a temp. gauge fitted, just in case. Normal operating temp. on mine (level highway driving and around town) is ~160-170 degrees. It'll get hotter under heavy load (hills, etc.), but I've never seen it even near 200 degrees. Let us know how it goes and how you like it.
