Sucker alert, doing autorx

I'm doing an autorx treatment on my jeep and 08 jetta 2.5. Both have a 100k. My jeep I'm sure is spotless inside, new heads don't have one spot of sludge, they glimmer like new--- just popped the valve cover. We'll see what comes out of the bottom. I'm doing it with valvoline 5w-20 Dino. The oil changes before this look like virgin oil after 4k oci.

As for the jetta it had a hard first 40k... There was no me around to do the maintenance. The treatment is being done with rotella t6 which is a group iii fake synthetic with tons of detergents made for diesels but gasoline approved. I think it only had four oil changes that first 40 k... And when I came into the picture it was on a long 12k oci with oil barely reading on the dipstick after a long hot summer in california. It had 502 oil from 40 to 70k and then three 3k oci with rotella, and during that time I think a lot came out because at 3k the oil came out black as night. From 80k-100k been using valvoline 5w40 euro and at 4k the oil looks to be about half used.... Kind of brown but not black.

So I have these two bottles kicking around and thought I get rid of them. We'll see how dark the oil comes out of each. My only control is that the previous oil changes have not been dark at all for each car.

If anyone else has had a snake oil treatment work or not work chime in.

i use penzoil ultra sin 5w20 and use zmax at each oil change. also use a k&n oil filter and my oil comes out looking fairly clean @ 3k intervals

Depending on the year, volkswagen reccomends oil changes every 10k. My brother has a Golf R and in the maint manual its every 10k.

I'd be careful using oils that "clean internals". It can create gap issues and cause leaks. Similar to a trans that never had a flush done @ 100k. Do a flush and internal components change gap due to the build up that used to be there. Change in gap means blown trans MOST of the time. Some get lucky. In the one time I did it.. didn't work out well.

IMO, if it hasn't been used with the life of the vehicle and not maintained.. Don't do it.

I took my 4.7 with extended performance Mobil 1 7,500 and no problems I used a gold k and n filter, had an analysis done and it was fine.

Re: Sucker alert, doing autorx

The oil change intervals in Germany are ranging between 15 and 20k miles, and, the usage is a bit heavier due to the higher sppeds on the autobahn. Never had any issues with my cars yet.
Fixed intervals are more a method to have you frequently visit your dealer.
However, it is essential that you use the exact oil specified for the engine, especially for diesel engines!

Happy Day

Re: Sucker alert, doing autorx

600 miles into my treatment now... I emptied my catch can and could see tiny bits of sludge in the oil. Kind of cool, I think I is actually working the way they say it is-- slow and gradual. We will have to see what the filter looks like after the cleaning and rinse phase.

Re: Sucker alert, doing autorx

I'm liking the results from the autorx in the jeep. Now I'm seeing what looks like a dark carbon cloud at the bottom of the oil in the catch can. Little pieces of grit and small chunks of carbon also. Can't wait the cut the filter open in 1400 miles and see what has collected. Jetta had no results... Seems to be a clean little engine... I believe you guys on the 10k oci now for that small engine.

Re: Sucker alert, doing autorx

Here is a pic of the carbon in the bottom of the catch can... The cloud seems to be centered under the inlet hose and was much darker earlier on in the cycle. still have a 1000 miles to go. Like I said in my other post, my compression test went up to 175 psi each cylinder... Up from 153-165 before. Not really sure what to make of it, I'm hoping that the carbon I am seeing is the rings getting cleaned out. I have read that it doesn't work well on aluminum, so whatever is being accumulated it from the pistons.

Re: Sucker alert, doing autorx

Well, not much results on either vehicle. I ripped the filters apart and everything. The jetta filter had nothing in it. While the jeep filter had just a few pleats that had very few black particles in it. Makes me think that I have done a good job with 3k oil changes. The jeep did see increased compression, but it could be the new heads are finally broken in. Nothing bad happened though... If anyone is going to do a oil treatment I'd do marvel mystery oil. The pleats on the rinse phase were kind of dark on the jeep, but not much particles.
