There are other dedicated ODB2 scantools but the smartphone app method is a better option IMO.
Eventhough the torque app is nice to have, on mine it doesn't show the transmission temperature. I have the free torque version. Does the paid version has this option?

Re: Transmission Over Temp Message 4.7 WK

Im going to call Chrysler tomorrow see what they have got to say for their amazing yet short life duration sorry ass transmissions. If you guys want me to ask them something let me know. It's one damn fine tranny though...best I ever driven. I'm always on cruise controls too...hope that does not ware it down quicker?...

Re: Transmission Over Temp Message 4.7 WK

No, cruise control will not do any harm to the transmission. It will probably even do good, since the constant speed reduces any shifting. On plain highways also the torque converter will not unlock, which reduces the transmission temperature and increases its life.

Re: Transmission Over Temp Message 4.7 WK

A very attentive person can count the shifts by watching the rpm drops. When the torque converter locks, it may feel like an extra gear depending in when it occurs. If you know this behavior and test drive it, you can tell if the TC is locking. Another symptom is rpm rising out of proportion to speed when accelerating lightly at speeds above 50mph or whatever the lockup speed is. These are general rules not specific to a certain transmission.

Re: Transmission Over Temp Message 4.7 WK

I always had a small knock happen when decelerating from say 3rd to 2nd or in the 20-30 mph area happen. But not always. If I press on the gas hard and let go around 40-60 kph it might happen. I'm used to it. Feels normal. Also I had a leaky exhaust driver side manifold and got it pached up with a new screw set and gasket, but the guy at the garage said he had worked for mopard and said very possible warping had occured. I still feel a slight annoying growl noise when accelerating, especially in a closed area like underground parking or very narrow street. But not as much as before the patch up 2 yrs ago. Not sure if this is something serious I should be throwing money at.

Re: Transmission Over Temp Message 4.7 WK

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice, I went on a 1000 Mile trip and the temp over message never showed up again. It must be something with the heat, not sure... If anyone ever has this, write to me here and I'll let you know what we did at the garage...
