Tried going with a cheap exhaust, and failed

To start off, im in a horrible mood about this whole situation, so this is more of a rant. But here we go,

So this summer I noticed that my 3.7 has an exhaust leak somewhere. To me it sounded like the headers because it sounds like an early 2000s Ford with the bad leaks, but what do I know. So i take it to a Jeep dealer, they say its a bad muffler, headers are fine, $475 bucks. So my cheap self goes to our family friends muffler shop, who say its a bad muffler, and quote $225 for a "MOPAR" replacement. So I do it. On the way home after picking it up I kept hearing this higher pitched drone of what i thought would be a riced out Honda or Jetta. Nope, its me. I drove it around for a couple days until I realized I could still hear the leak noise. So after two trips back, and a couple more hours of "fixing" it, they tell me im hearing things and that there is no leak and their muffler is MOPAR. Finally i take it to another dealer, I find out that this muffler is just a cheap muffler for V8s, I think he said Eagle brand. He then quotes me $680 for the jeep muffler plus one hour labor, also another 800-1000 to replace the headers.

So pretty much I paid to make my Jeep sound like @ss and Its not going to be fixed for a long time if its costing this much. Rant over

I took some video a month ago but you can't hear it very well over the ambient noise from driving. I'll try to drive next to a building today to maybe get it to amplify it better from echoing off the walls.

You may want to try and do a little troubleshooting yourself. Take a piece of flexible copper tubing (about a foot to a foot and a half long) and connect a length of rubber hose to one end. Holding the hose end near your ear, you can use the tubing end to probe around the exhaust manifold to head areas and the manifold to "Y" pipe connections. Using copper tubing allows you to easily bend it in ways so you can get all sides of connections. This should help you isolate any possible leaks.

And look to see if the muffler is just installed poorly to the exhaust tube, leaving gaps on the expansion connectors that can whistle, most likely at the engine end. There's nothing at all wrong with aftermarket mufflers, as long as they are good enough to handle the vehicle--and some are even better than Mopar at less money. Trick is to find the local [typically non-chain] shops that carry good brands and can do good install work and stand behind it.

Exhaust manifold leaks tend to have a somewhat spitting sounding noise, not a whistle.

So I took a look underneath with someone pressing the gas, and there are no leaks near the muffler (that I know of). I'm guessing this muffler just isn't right for the WK. Funny thing is that once everything's warmed up, its as quiet as a stock one from 800 to 1800 rpm. Anything more makes a ricey drone sound, and anything less sounds like an old beat up truck.

On the other hand, I did test for the header leak, and from what I can tell is that yes there is a leak. I'm pretty sure its both sides, but the passenger side is way worse. From what I've read on here and other sites, it sound like a hard job by yourself, or an expensive one at a shop.
