Re: V6 Turbo?

The WK 2 supposedly has single and turbo V6 options on the new pentastar V6. But its starting with more HP then most current small V8s have including the 4.7.

Re: V6 Turbo?

If you really want a V6 turbo, put a 3.8 buick (gn, gnx, 20th anniv. TA) or 4.3 GMC (syclone) in it Any one of those can make some serious power! However, we have fat pigs to contend with so don't expect the same kind of performance #'s, he he.

I like thinking about different possibilities, but when it comes to these, since there were V8 options already, why start at the bottom. There were so many of these WK's made, it would be better to start off with a more stout platform and I imagine the drivetrain is a little more H-D, as well as cooling, etc. already [not saying they will put up with it, per se, but least it's an upgrade already there]

8 psig is pretty low boost and especially on a small engine, like the 6 cylinder...You could probably run more boost with a well designed intercooler and some sort of water/meth injection and really creative tuning, but there comes a point of no return (on investment)...

Personally, with so much weight to lug around, you want to focus on low to mid range torque and being our engines are so small (even a 6.1 in that respect), I'd personally rather go with a supercharger than a turbo...don't get me wrong, I like turbos (my gvr4 puts out ~400 hp and well over 420 ft./lbs on a little 2.0, but it only weighs 3,200 and I run 22-24 psi on it), but the heavy pigs do not mix well with needing to spool up the turbo to get the power.

Also, we are limited on being able to use a really efficient compressor (turbo), since it has to be placed so far from the source and it will lose some of its needed heat energy. Partly why engines like the 4G63 (mitsubishi 4 cylinder turbo) can make so much power relatively easy. You want as much heat (the expansion) to get to the exhaust turbine as possible...Sure, it *works* in other places (liek the STS), but you also need to have so much routing to, thru and past an intercooler, you also get more pressure drop and probably soaks up radiant heat from the engine more, too.

Another consideration is gearing. Don't the V6's have 3.08 diffs? That's gonna really work against you in acceleration, except when you're on the highway, but then we have our brickdynamics.

Nope, there will just be a 3.0 turbo diesel (on dealer lots in January 2013), but no turbo on any of the petrol motors. 2014 will have a supercharged SRT model though.

7-8 psi would yield a roughly 50% gain in power. The engine could take that easily with a proper tune. Which is the tough part with mopar pcms. The tranny may not hold up very long without being beefed up. A smaller turbo would spool up fast and produce a lot of tq in the low and mid range. Rear mount turbos work well when setup correctly. I gained 100 rwhp with 5 psi on a bone stock 5.3 in my Chevy truck. Same STS kit pushed a 4500 lb truck to an 11.35 @ 118 mph with a forged engine and 12 lbs of boost. A lower geared rear end also helps spool the turbo faster because it loads the turbo better than a higher geared rear.

That's EXACTLY what I was going to tell him. Sell what you have and buy the diesel. Putting $5-6K into what he has I believe doesn't make much sense.

I'll second that because I've got a one . OK, only 237hp but with 406lb-ft of torque stock. That's more than the 5.7L Hemi. Gale Banks Inside The Banks VM Motori 3.0L 630T V6 Diesel Engine - Diesel Power Magazine have got 500lb-ft out of it and that's more than the 6.4L Hemi.

Re: V6 Turbo?

well the forged parts can be had, airram has forged pistons and rods for the 4.7, and its the same engine as the 3.7with 2 more cylinders. they even have parts for turbo applications so the parts are there. as far as tuning i heard that B&G dose custom tunes for turbo aplications. one couild get a mopar ecu and have B&G flash it with a turbo tune. STS makes a universal turbo kit. so with the right parts you could run 12-14 psi and get right aroun 550-600 range and if youre 2wd like me youre about 400 lbs lighter than an srt so in theory you could out run a stock srt at about 390-415 hp mark
