v8 or v6? Which is a better choice overall?

So, I bought a v6 '07 GC a month ago and got rear ended last friday. It's looking like they are going to total my baby. Honestly i'd prefer that at this point because the amount of damage to the body is ridiculous and I don't want my new vehicle to have that kind of damage history.

So now that I'm almost on the market for a new GC, I'm having second thoughts about getting another v6.... I bought it for the gas milage, but looking at the ratings, it has hardly better economy than the v8!

Long story short, what are your opinions on the two? I almost feel like the v6, because of it's poor fuel economy is a waste of time when I could get a v8 that has a little more oomph and towing power.

What do you think?

I'm on the market for 05-09s, under 90,000 miles and $14,000 or less. That's meeting the same market that my last one was in. And it MUST be black..... if only the v8's came in the all black that my v6 was. She was so pretty before she got banged up.

I will be purchasing my first JGC in the near future and I am debating on the 2014 3.6 and 5.7. I see a bunch of people wish they went with the 5.7 after buying the 3.6, but not the other way around. Has anyone actually regretted going with the 5.7?
You have to remember that a lot of these are with people who have the 5 speed in the V6. The 8 speed helps the V6 now.

I'd go 4.7 if you're ruling out the HEMI. Very close in MPG, and obviously a little beefier. But there's tons of people with 3.7's and have nothing but good things to say.

Get a HEMI:p

I drove a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo with the V6 Pentastar engine for 9 years. Fantastic engine. After 170,000 miles I was burning no oil. I wanted to increase my tow capacity so bought a new 2021 High Altitude. The new V6's are rated for 6,200 lbs. but I was on the fence. I read a brilliant quote, maybe in this forum, "The Pentastar V6 is good for the wallet, the V8 Hemi is good for the soul". I went with the Hemi. Had it for a week now and it is unbelievable. The raw power makes it hard not to smile as I travel down the road. Unless money is really tight, I suggest the Hemi.

If i was custom ordering from the factory i definitely would of spec'd in a hemi.
But i got a good deal on a V6 sitting on a dealer's lot waiting for a home.

My speeding days are behind me and i don't intend to tow with it, thats what my F150 V8 and XJ are for.
The only down side is the somewhat anemic low end torque.
I'm extremely happy with the gas mileage and its got more than enough power to get the job done.

I test drove a few V6 GCs, and they are fine. I ultimately found a V8 Limited with a few options that appealed to me, so I went for it. Very glad I went with the Hemi, as it adds a bit of heft to the car, and a nice melody when you get on it. Put it in sport mode and 5,000 lbs of SUV move out really well. Maybe it is just me, but if feels more substantial with the V8. The one downside is the MDS system, which seems to save some fuel, but you get a minor vibration when it activates. Very easy to shut off when it annoys you. On my commute to NYC it rarely bothers me and sport mode doesn't get used often, just so much power in eco mode. My only concern is the longevity of the MDS system. I have no doubts about the Hemi (water pump excluded, but so what). Just wondering if the Hemi is good for 150k-200k miles with few issues with the MDS?
