Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

GOING TO GIVE ROYAL PURPLE A SHOT. 5w20 BECAUSE OF THE MDS. ACTUALLY GOING TO START DOING IT MYSELF ONLY BECAUSE I WANT TO BE MORE HANDS ON WITH THE JEEP & WANT TO KNOW EXACTLY WHAT OIL IS GOING IN. I'LL LET YOU GUYS KNOW IF I FEEL ANY DIFFERENCE. IF ANYTHING, MAYBE I'LL GET MORE MILEAGE BETWEEN CHANGES

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Normally use Amsoil synthetic european blend with K&N or Mobil oil filter. Am using dinosaur oil at the moment for engine break-in. Valvoline and Mopar filter.

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Am I the only one that goes 12500 miles between oil changes?

This is at least twice a year as I do about 3500 miles each month in my CRD

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Mobile 1 5w 20 and KN (only because of 1" nut). I read that KN and Mobile 1 oil filters are made by the same company champion labs. I change mine 3k - 4k miles. If its winter, I will wait for a warmer day.

Was true in the old days when Pennzoil was an asphalt-based oil and Quaker State was a paraffin-based oil. Don't believe it is true any longer, but the memory lingers. If the oil meets API spec and is the right grade (i.e., viscosity) for your engine, it's OK.

BTW: Castrol Syntec 5W-20 full synthetic with K&N oil filter. Used MOPAR filter and dealer oil until warranty ran out. HEMI likes synthetic better. Oil changes about every 5K miles.

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

7qt M1 5w-20 & Mopar filter every 3500mi

Can anyone explain the why it's ok to run synthetic oil for >4000mi?
I understand synthetic oil is less susceptible to thermal breakdown. What I don't get is the dirty aspect? My oil is nasty @ 3000mi.

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Royal purple is garbage! I ran that once in my 450hp Mitsubishi Evolution VIII and ill never run it in any vehicle (performance or daily driver) That stuff is like water and after 2000 miles when I checked it, I was a quart low. That oil "improves horsepower" because it has no viscosity and doesnt protect your engine internals. I went back to mobil 1 and never "lost" any oil between changes. I wouldnt run royal purple in my lawnmower.

/ Rant

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Based on what I've read about Royal Purple, it is known to shear down pretty bad.

Re: what brand oil does everyone use?

Never heard of Royal Purple, not one thats available in the UK

The only thing I do know is that Mobil 1 is the best I can buy

Run it in my motorcycle, and WK will have it when next changed

I will run 12500 miles between changes

Something is causing your oil to be dirty if it is that bad. What kind of air filter are you running? Perhaps you should consider changing your oil filter brand or even the oil. Is the M1 oil you are using a synthetic of not? some M1 is better than other varieties. The M1 Clean 5000 series, for example is a conventional fluid, with the Extended Performance series being one of their best offerings.
