Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

my hemi gets 16-17 in the city all the time. I'm using 5-20 Royal Purple and a K&N filter. Other than the filter no mods. Every 3-4 oil changes I put in about 1/2 bottle of seafoam in the gas tank. Using the 5-20 really keeps the cut off for the 4 cyl's working pretty good.

I've seen in other threads that MDS doesn't like RP.

Do you spend any time idling? minutes of idling will KILL your mpg in the evic.

Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

I have a 06 WK w/ a 3.7L, I do mostly city driving, lots of starting and stopping. Recently tuned up, bosch iridium plugs, Royal Purple oil w/ K&N oil filter. I have a K&N FIPK, stock wheels/tires and i average 13-14 mpg. Prior to tune up I was averaging 11. My brother lives next door, and works the same place as me. He has a 07 w/ a 4.7, hasn't tuned it up for a long time and has the same commute, and he averages 16-17. His also has 20k more miles. I've read that the 3.7 gets the worst mileage for city. With barely 200hp, it really has to work to the the heavy WK moving. The 4.7 and Hemi do better city as far as I can tell.

Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

Get a complete tune up as others have said. You can also try a seafoam treatment. I wouldn't put it in the oil just the vac line and gas tank. That should help clean the crap out.

Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

Definitely going to do a seafoam treatment after I change the plugs. Just remembered hearing something about the air dam being off affecting MPGs, would the dam being off take off that many mpg?

Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

That's what I thought. I'll update once I seafoam, I've been too lazy to put the spark plugs in but that'll happen next week maybe.

Definitely put Seafoam in the oil, as it frees up sticky lifters and all the internal deposits. That made a big difference in how mine runs, much smoother and notably more power restored. Put it in the oil before changing it, and don't run it more than about 100 miles, as it gets dirty pretty quickly.

Re: What kind of MPG should I be getting?

If you were to put it in the oil I wouldn't run it more than 20 miles. You have a pretty thin oil to begin with and then your cutting the viscosity even more. That's pretty hard on everything, bearings boat notably. Gas and intake would be the only place that's best to run seafoam. Try the new seafoam spray. Its quite effective and is like the Mopar Combustion Chamber Cleaner.
