Pretty straight forward. After reading many review, watching videos and .listening to sound clips I have decided on the Flow Master Super 44, 3" Offset Inlet, 3" Center Outlet.
It should arrive Saturday, hope to have it installed next week.
My question is - Install with stock resonator in place or cut out resonator and add section of straight pipe with a nice looking tip?
I've never owned a "loud" car before. I had a 300ZX TT when I was younger with an exhaust but it wasn't super loud.
The sound from the resonator-less exhaust sounds mean. With the resonator it sounds a little weak. If i remove the resonator, will I regret it?
What do you guys think? I may just leave the resonator and if I want more go have it remove another time. Seems like the best bet but I'd hate to have to drop my truck off twice.
I'm struggling with the same thing. Those with the 44 and no resonator, is it loud all the time or just when you get on it? And is there a lot of interior drone without the resonator?
Hey I forgot to update. I installed the Super 44 and left the stock resonator. It sounds AMAZING. It's plenty loud and you can hear it in the cabin. I did some higway miles and with cruise control on, MDS engaged, RPM just under 2k @ about 60-65mph it's pretty quiet. But you hear it in the cabin as soon as the foot hits the pedal.
It's not overbearing, but it is loud. I highly recommend it. Here is the exact one I bought.
Also - The remote start test. I live on Long Island, I go to work at 430am. My neighbors window is about 30 feet from my tail pipe so this was a concern. It gives a decent growl when you start it up but calms down as soon as the revs drop. I'm sure they can hear it, I can hear it in my house, but it doesn't seem super annoying.
Leave the resonator on, I think it will be SUPER loud without it. That being said, if you want more I'm sure you could go back to the muffler shop and have them chop off the reso., add some straight pipe and a tip for fairly cheap.
I'm going to do a few videos this weekend, probably post them Monday. I'll do start up from outside / inside. Highway driving & accelerating from inside & outside of the truck. Any others you may want while I'm doing it?
I installed the MBRP cat back stainless exhaust system which does not have a resonator. The sound is the best at 1600 - 2000 rpm with light throttle; nice deep tone without being obnoxious. Oh, and there is no drone! When the MDS kicks in, the tone sounds more like a burble. I am completely satisfied with this set-up. My GC has the Taylor shorties, a Modern Muscle 85mm throttle body, airaid jr. intake with K&N filter, and a catch can. It sounds and runs really well.
Hi, soon after buying my 3.7 V6, had a free flow fitted and cats removed. Very reputable exhaust shop did the job. We discussed one or two boxes. Shop strongly suggested fitting 2 boxes due to overly loud result on Cherokee just completed.
So, fitted 2 boxes and very happy with soft rumble at low revs and loud growl at high revs.
I just had flow master 40 series put on my 3.7. And I hate the drone. Loud in cabin on the highway. Wondering I dump it out before the rear tire that would quiet the drone. Or maybe add a resonator. Any ideas?
I had the resonator removed (Super 44 on a 5.7) and I love it. Drone got a little worse, but it does not bother me. I usually have the tunes up in the car anyway. I love it, she sounds like a monster.
