Exclamation 2008 3.0l CRD - transmission failure

Hello Everyone

I have a 2008 CRD with 177,000 kilometers. This morning after a 10k drive (without incident) parked it.

1 hour later...came out started it, and drove 2 blocks (as normal) while trying to accelerate the engine bogged ( no sounds from transmission) and had a total loss of power.

I had pulled over to the curb, put the car in park ...no status errors "system ok" Tried shifting between P /R /N /D ...no problem ..tried shifting to 4Low...no engagement.

the truck has been maintained by the dealer ..and all sevice has been performed ...

I'm curious if anyone has any ideas before I have to spend over 5k for new transmission...Ouch...or has experienced the same..?

btw the tech was not able to definitively say it was the transmission ...

any ideas or thoughts appreciated

cheers

Re: 2008 3.0l CRD - transmission failure

Not familiar with the CRD and donīt know which transmission it has, but selecting 4Lo has nothing to do with the transmission. 4Lo is selected in the T-case.
Does the transmission shift normally, or does it seem to be stuck in one gear only? Did the tech use a scanner to check for any fault code?

Re: 2008 3.0l CRD - transmission failure

Good morning and Thanks for the reply...

The truck's shift is more like slip into (without engagement) through P/R/N/D

The Desiel Mech mentioned ...he did a scan with no real results....? They see all of the proper input to the transmission without any output...?

The dealership offered to RE & RE the tranny with a 3 year 60k warranty for $6,200.00.

I'm going to have it towed to reputable Transmission Shop in the area for a second look

thanks again for your reply

Which transmission does it have? I think that you can get a rebuild tranny with warranty for a lot less.

It's a Mercedes-Benz transmission.

Re: 2008 3.0l CRD - transmission failure

I'm not sure if I had the same problem but it sounds very similar. I would get to an intersection, waiting to turn left. When I step on the pedal it moves very slowly (almost complete loss of power) and I almost got hit by oncoming traffic. Pulled over, turn off ignition, waited a couple minutes then started up and it's fine again.
Dealer claims its a speed sensor unit (electrohydraulic sensing module). I bought the new part, had it installed and it works fine now.
There was also a recent recall on the transmission module as well so do look into that. I had this done as well. I suspect it was the same part but Jeep wont pay for my own repairs. Hope that helps.
