Re: Black oil

Maybe I'm the black-sheep of the group, but my oil stays a golden colour for the few thousand kms of a fresh oil change on my 08 JGC CRD. Possibly because I have a DPF delete and shut off my swirl motor? I use Shell Rotella 0w40 Synthetic.

I do understand that diesels (usually big diesel trucks in my experience) the oil turns black almost instantly after an oil change.

normal its not instantly that you get black oil , it takes some 1000-2000km if recent motor
today i've 15000 , Syntetic oil change is approx 20000 km
the oil is not really black but you can see it's still a bit golden somewhere ( if you look carefully ) . totally normal

It has nothing to do with DPF or swirl motor shunt.. I have a old 90's XJ diesel (it has no dpf and no swirl motor , only basic motor)
The color of the oil is due to
the fact that there is always a bit of oil oil in the motor (it will color the new oil quickly )
then the blow-by of soot from the exhaust pass the piston rings as they are not 100% leak tight...( it's better now with modern engines ) oil retains carbon deposits from combustion and also to the engine heat

I hope I haven't said anything wrong
don't worry if your oil is getting black ... you're driving a diesel truck
