Black oil

According to the dealer from whom I purchased the vehicle, a minor service was done on 25th October 2012 by a garage they use. I have done 1007 miles since and today checked the oil in the car and the oil is black.
Should it be this black after just over 1000 miles? Personally I don't think so as with my Toyota 4 runner the oil was not as dark even after 5000 miles.
Please advise.

Re: Black oil

i highly doubt it. almost sounds like they prob just changed the filter and added a quart but did not do a complete oil change. if the car was 10 -15 years old i would say its more possible because of the sludge.

Re: Black oil

Thanks people. In comparison to my Toyota Hilux 4 runner oil in Jeep seemed very black for mileage.

Re: Black oil

Black oil is normal due to the EGR routing exhaust back into the engine and the low ash oil is designed to keep the soot suspended in the oil, instead of clogging up the engine.

Perhaps your Hilux is older/new/smaller engine size, different emissions, differing pollution tec etc, etc, .... you can't compare them.

Re: Black oil

I guess it also depends on how you drive it as heavy load might create more soot which is then suspended in the oil. I've had many diesels over the years and most of them the oil was black within 1-2k miles

Re: Black oil

Black oil is normal on diesel (I drive 2 diesel jeeps XJ and WK), oil becomes black more or less fast depending how you drive it and depending on the oil you use ..
