hi guys, new member here but not currently a jeep owner...

i have been researching luxury suv's in my price range and have kinda settled on looking for a WK GC 3.0 crd auto.
as far as my research has taken me, i see very few complaints or common faults with this car, but is there anything i should be looking out for when buying a used wk, or any particular years to avoid?
i am germany based so not sure how that affects answers, but i have seen from 2006 to 2009 models, ltd and overland with around 60-80,000 miles on the clock.

The only real tips I could give you is make sure "everything" works. Keep in mind, these things were built by Chrysler and Chrysler builds sometimes can be momentary electrical glitch nightmares. At least everyone I've owned over the last 40 years has been at times. The electrical glitches most of the time are like phantoms. Doesn't really effect driveability just annoying. Make sure the mechanical part is up to par. My approach to Chrysler builds, is if it's electrical and it doesn't kill the engine or drivetrain it'll go away, sometimes for good sometimes for a little while. Mechanical parts, they'll crap out and either rust and fall off or you won't have to guess what to replace. Find a good one. Have it checked out by a shop who know diesels (not always a dealership) and dive right in..... It's only money and you can sell it to the next guy if you don't like it.

ok cool, i made the mistake of not checking my honda in the dark as lots of internal lights (heater, steering wheel controls etc) dont work and small other niggles are starting to piss me off. i have the choice of a GC or Touareg, everything else for the price is crap or high mileage.
In general though, how does the GC hold up mechanically compared to say the touareg?

I guess I couldn't say which is better mechanically. I've never owned a VW build. That V10 tdi Touareg was quite impressive performance wise but I never drove one or saw one up close so I'm going by what I read (others evaluation). Me, I would lean toward the Jeep for no other reason than I'm used to Chrysler stuff and used to working on them. A VW would blow my tool budget with new purchases.
