Glow Plugs

Hi
2008 S Limited diesel.
Replaced the module but one week later started again with rough starts in the morning with little grey smoke. Said to garage to change the 6 glow plugs too but not fault codes at the time ( warranty module replaced ) . I'm going privately ( no warranty ) to change them but garage quote me £450 because it might break on inside etc.
Here in Scotland cannot find a good garage for my Jeep. I hate it when you go to a garage and we know more about the car than them .
It seems that 2008 models have the same issues as my previous Jeeps had no problems at all.
Anyone had some problems?

Thanks Costas

Re: Glow Plugs

My 2008 s limited is fine. I bought a spare glow plug and keep it in the toolbox cuz when one burns out it seems you need to change it asap or risk burning out the others or even the module.

Re: Glow Plugs

Well i learned the expensive way. Found a good mechanic and will change all of them for £190 . i think you are right you need to invest to a code reader and try to tackle the problem early ( if you can read the symptoms) . I keep you post it to see if the repairs fix the problem.
The mechanic also comment that big supermarkets here start using bio-fuel to bring the price down with bad results to our engine. let see...................

Re: Glow Plugs

I am thinking that glow plugs should just be changed, perhaps at 50000 miles, just do them all and then not worry about them failing when you are far from home and potentially causing a failure of the glow plug module too.

Re: Glow Plugs

After 2 glow plug + control module I finally found why my number fault code was still there.
From passanger side (Right hand side canada)front to back are cylinder 1,3,5 but for glow plug CTT they are 1,2 and 3
From driver side (left hand Canada) the cylinder are 2,4,6 Glow plug CCT 4,5,6.

After replacing the right one no more fault light

Re: Glow Plugs

I've changed all of them usually when 1 is dead the other are not to far away
and the most important is that if you wait too long you can break th glow plug module ..

Costas 190£ are not that much there are approx 135€ for 6 glow plug + 1h -1h 30 labor ~ 200€---170£ even it they might break inside ( the fuel rail need to be removed to get access )

Therefore I haven't done it myself too risky
