How long is normal engine cool down?

I just bought a 2008 GC 3.0 CRD. It is my first diesel powered vehicle so I am still getting know it. Yesterday, my wife drove it about 30 miles, normal driving, at regular operating temp. Got home and parked it in our garage, letting it idle one minute to lub/cool the turbo. About 2 hours later I went out to check the oil level and noticed the engine still seemed VERY warm, like it had just been running. I started it and the temp gauge was half way between cold(at start) and normal operating temp.

Is this normal? Or is this merely the way diesels cool down?

Re: How long is normal engine cool down?

I have decided that it is just normal for the diesel engine to take a little longer time to cool down as it is my 1st diesel. I also showed it to a good friend who worked as a project engineer for Navistar on the Ford Powerstrokes. He said it looked fine. Interesting, he confirms it is a good idea to let a turbo diesel to cool down for a few minutes after running it very much. He said he has seen turbos glow RED during testing.
