Re: looking at buying a 2008 CRD

...just one word: BUY!! Itīs the best combination available. the diesel is a mercedes engine - so if you take care of it, it will last for 250k miles and more. it has more torque than a v8 and WAAAY BETTER milage. i average at 21-22mpg (2/3@90mph 1/3@city). it runs 125mph if needed (15mpg) with no problem. so i highly recoment the diesel. we just get our wk2 crd overland - we will see how the italian engine will perform against the benz...

Re: looking at buying a 2008 CRD

I'm still looking for a 2008 Overland Diesel that is reasonably priced. The Diesel engine is the only thing that would make me trade up for newer.

Re: looking at buying a 2008 CRD

I bought mine used with 45,000 miles, now have 60,000, no issues. i will be replacing the turbo hose with an updated one as they have known to leak and cause larger repair bills on 2 grand. For 100 bucks I think i will do it.

The truck pulls my 2 jetski's with no effort. I have the OME 3" suspension lift and love it! I just wish it had a 5th gear!!!!!!!! Revs a little high on the highway. an extra gear would have meant these things getting better highway milage.

Re: looking at buying a 2008 CRD

Just hit 90,000 on my 2008 CRD. The swirl valve and the glow plug control module had to be replaced a around 70,000 miles. The transmission control module also went out, but that's not specific to the diesel engines.

It's great for towing a 5,500 lb travel trailer and also doesn't have to drop out of 5th gear to climb mountain passes at 10,000 ft when running without the trailer.

Re: looking at buying a 2008 CRD

If you want 4WD, make sure it of it. My parents almost bought an 07 CRD, decently priced at $22K. They brought to me for a test drive and need 4WD where they live. I peeked under the front for leaks, and no guts! It even had the QDII badge on the center console... no low range shifter though. I'm glad I caught it.
