Hi,
I am new to this forum. Had a glow plug replaced after a code reading suggesting a problem with no. 2 plug. But shortly afterwards the MIL came on and stays on without any DTC reading. Have tried to erase it but it comes on again. Workshop has ordered a new control unit to fix the problem (not yet installed), but I am not totally convinced.
Has anyone had the same issue?
I have got some replies elesewhere that the MIL will go out by itself, but it has been there for a month now so I do not think it will go out by itself.
Thanks in advance for any comment.
That is strange it hasn't gone out yet. How often do you drive it? I know I had to take 5-7 trips in mine after replacing glow plug number 6 for the light to go off.
Hi, thanks for your comment. I have started tha car ca. 40-50 times since so I am pretty sure it is not going to go away by itself. Was hoping for it though.
Will report when the control unit has been replaced.
It is very strange I find that there is no DTC code. I have tried the 3x switch on/off method and the workshop has tried with a obd2 tool as well.
Thanks, tried that too by disconnecting the battery but may need to try a total reset by leaving the battery disconnected for a while and "draining" any remaining data.
I would replace the glow plug module. You can find it online for about $150. I've been doing some reading and some people have the same problem as you and all they had to do is replace the glow plug module. You can do it yourself in under 20 minutes. Hi, thanks a lot for this comment and video link. In the meantime, my mechanic contacted me and said they had received the glow plug module. So it will be replaced in my car this week. I will report the result of that here. Your comment has made me pretty confident that the glow plug module is the problem.
Glad it sounds like you have this under control...not being a diesel guy I have to ask what does MIL mean ? Every time I read it all I could think of was mother in law (nag) light and would laugh...

Very nice, I did not think of that Engllish is not my first language but from what I have read I understand MIl is supposed to mean "Malfunction Indicator Light". It is just another term for "Check Engine Light". New Year Greetings to all of you from Reykjavik, Iceland.
So essentially it is the same ...someday I would like to visit Iceland, my older kids were there for a day during a layover to London obviously they didn't see much but my Son said he would like to go back. Best wishes from the frozen tundra of MinneSNOWta
Just to keep you posted on the MIL warning on my car. I finally had the glow plug control module replaced on Friday and problem solved The engine is actually running smoother than before. The new control unit was ordered from Mercedes Benz because it was a lot cheaper there than at Chrysler. Still it cost me about 280 dollars. My mechanic tells me that this control unit is smaller than the original unit and that it is the 4th "generation" of these units. Mercedes has been having problems with these units for quite some time.
