New Owner of CRD

Hey everyone, I recently purchased a 2007 WK LTD with the 3.0 CRD. The seller is not the original owner and service history is a little spotty. For my sake, I'm assuming that pretty much all previous ownership was ignorant and minimal things have been done.

I was hoping I could get some tips on what I should look for and make sure has been done. This is my first diesel engine as well. I own another quirky engine vehicle, so I'm used to the weird pain in the ass things that need to be done.

Re: New Owner of CRD

Look into getting the Green Diesel tune. You get performance upgrade and don't have to worry about the swirl motor problem that plagues this engine. A great investment for your vehicle in my opinion.

All the best!

Re: New Owner of CRD

Bought it 10 days ago and I've put 3000 miles on. I'm absolutely loving it so far!

I've been reading through and searching and making my lists of need-to-dos and wants, which I'll be taking care of as I can.

Picked up a set of 2013 JK Sahara rims with 255/70 R18s mounted this morning. I've seen conflicting reports, so I'm not sure what I'll get, but if the TPMS aren't compatible, what are my options?
Not sure I want to deal with swapping them. Is it possible to tell the ECU to ignore them, and how? Anyone done a resistor hack to get rid of them?

Also, I'd like to recalibrate the speedo for the new diameter. What's the best way to do this? I'm getting the GDE eco tune soon. Can they do this compensation for me?

Next on the list is first oil change, and getting it on a lift to get under and inspect everything more thoroughly. Also replacing the intake tube, as I have the orange gasket and it's definitely seaping oil more than is ok.

Planning on eventually getting an OME lift and spacers as well. Then a bumper and basket, among some other fun things.

Any and all comments would be welcome. Thanks for your response as well, Yeti.

Very good to hear.
You must be running up and down the 400 every day to rack up those km's.
I actually buy my oil and filter at the Benz Dealership at Innisfil Beach Rd and 400.
I found that it is cheaper there than most places - much to my surprise!

I'm just shy of 137,000 km and have been pulling my camper all summer long with it.

GDE's Tuner cannot calibrate tires. There are mixed reports of a hypertech unit that will work with CRD's but is not listed to do so. The EGR from Superlift will also work.

I use Amsoil Low SAPS European formula. You can find my posts in a thread about CRD Oil Recommendations. I have listed my last two oil analysi on it. So far it works well. I change annually at most 15,000 miles. I do a filter change half way through though, since it's easy to get to and doesn't make a mess.

Re: New Owner of CRD

Hey Bromarc,
Here's my comment on your list of do's and wants. First, does the sahara wheels/tire set up rub at all? Did you do a pinch mod? I'm also running sahara 7spoke wheels. I originally ran them with the stock 255/70/18 and did the pinch mod. Now I've swap them out for 265/60/18 Nexen Roadians. Much better overall experience.

I also have the GDE eco-tune. Yes, it is the best investment. Not just performance but my fuel economy has improved by 2-3L/100kms.

As for the TPMS, my Sahara wheels came with non compatible sensors so I've just been running without them. No problem if you don't mind the TPMS light on the dash lit at all times.

Just keep the oil changes regular and you'll have one of the best SUV's around. Good luck.
