Tuners

I have been doing a lot of research on tuning and tuner boxes. There are quite a few and they all pretty much do the same thing. I have found 2 that I dont think are mentioned. The first being the predator extreme power puck going for $369.99. It is listed under new applications on the product line. Don't know how new it is though. And the second one is the kleemann kd-box going for 675 euro. It is listed for the mercedes cdi or bluetec. So i am not positive it will work on the jeeps but it is supposed to be one of the best according to the mbworld.org posts i have read. also found a post about a larger watercooled turbo. http://mbworld.org/forums/diesel-for...ing-om642.html
pics of the turbo install are on page 2. And I believe it is installed in a grand cherokee. There is a bit of argueing towards the end of the thread but it is still an interesting read.

Re: Tuners

As i understand it we have to main options for tuning without upgrading parts, tuning boxes and ecu mapping. From what I have found there are 2 categories in the Ecu mapping 1. being generic mapping-which is when you map over your current ecu with a generic library and 2. being you download a copy of your ecu, send it in, get it customized and then remapping your ecu with custom tune. Of the Ecu mapping options which one has shown better stable gains? If i read everything correctly the tunerboxes don't mess with the ecu since they plug in after it. But they do the same thing right? Between the two which is more stable? has anyone had problems with either? Sorry for all the questions and probably repeated info. I am more of a bolt on power adder but there doesn't seem to be anything for us.

Re: Tuners

Only way to go is with the custom tune. I would never run a tuning box or generic tune on this engine. You bought a premium engine, don't put cheap tuners on it. I run the Custom Spooling tune with DPF and EGR delete. Its the best tune out there. I have posted my 1/4 mile runs which I think the only other person to run a CRD in the 1/4 was from Australia and posted. Its extremely quick with almost zero lag. I also removed the turbo resonator, welded up a 3" aluminum turbo intake tube, and installed a devil's own methanol injection system. I have talked with that guy on the mbworld forum numerous times. I will probably get one of those turbos from him. There are some other guys running larger turbos on these engines, but they are in Finland and don't post on English sites. There really isn't much bolt on, but I am working on a few things. The most important mods are elephant mod to remove CCV gases, swirl motor 4.7K resistor mod, turbo resonator removal, dpf and egr delete tuning. Anymore power than that and you will need transmission upgrades. All the good current tunes reduce power in 1 & 2 gear to keep the transmission alive. I will be getting a Paramount transmission in the future to handle the power.

Thanks for the good info. I have recently been introduced to a diesel tractor pull guy. He is looking into what he can do for these Mercedes diesels. It is new territory for him so it might be awhile before I get anything solid from him. But should anything come up I will definately post here.
