The diesel definately uses the same Merc tranny that the SRT does?

Yep. The Diesel and SRT both use the W5A580, 722,6 NAG1.

on the WJ 2.7, it was the same story, the NAG1 had different oils whether it was behind a gas engine (atf+4) or a 2.7CRD (236.10 or 236.14)
Ser_gun, are you sure they kept that philosophy with the WK ?
