285s and OME

Hello Jeepers, this is the 1st thread that I post so im not sure if here is the right place or if im doing it right.

Right now i have a 2006 Wk 4.7 V8 with:

OME MD Suspension Kit
JBA UCAs
255 75 17 KM1s
1.5 Spidertraxx Spacers
Pinch Weld: Done

I never go Off Road so i want to change to Street tires but want to go
with 285 70 17s. The question is, what do i have to do to make these fit ?

With some research i have done i think ill need Rustys front 1/2" strut plates. how can i lift de back 1/2 " to level it ?
with extra 1/2" and OME MD (MEDIUM) will be enough for 285s ?
will this mod bring any short or long term issues ?
will i need other modifications ?
What will happen to the steering rack if i do this ?

Please help me and srry for my poor english and low knowledge.

You need to make sure your hub to fender measurement is below 23 inches to maintain appropriate geometry. The 285's will fit, but you will need to do the pinch weld mod. I would recommend the Falken Rocky Mtn AT's in the 285's.

Check out Jeep Forum (jeepforum.com), there is more consistent off-road / Lifted WK talk on the forum. Good Luck!

Re: 285s and OME

I found a 4x4 store that sells a 1" spacer kit for wk ( front and rear )
Will this be too much ?
Will i need longer shocks ?

Remember that I have OME MD not HD. ( HD is bit higher )

So if people with HD adds 1/2" i could add 1" without causing problems ?

Re: 285s and OME

You don't NEED anything additional besides the OME MD lift, pinch weld mod and rolling the rear fenders to fit 285/70/17's with the proper wheel offset. This is what I was running with JK Rubicon wheels and 1.25" spacers and now I have AEV Pintler wheels with 285/70/17 BFG AT's.

Re: 285s and OME

I dont think with just OME MD 285s will fit.. right now y have 255/75/17
and there is no more space for 33s"

Should i just stack a 1/4 spacer in front and 1.5 in the back ?

Or Should i go to OME HD and stack spacers ?

Remember i have 4.7 not HEMI so i might get a little more of lift than HEMI Wks.

Re: 285s and OME

Another question... if add in the rear 1.5" spacer, adjustable track bar and extended links

will i over extend ome shocks ?

will i need to buy extended brake lines ?

You probably will over extend the OE shocks. I know that the OME coils in medium are 540lb per inch over OE are 440lb that is in the rear coils I called ARB and asked them. I dont know what the fronts are though. Hope this helps some.

Re: 285s and OME

Might also want to check on 265/75/17 pretty close to 285 but can probably get better mpg out of them I'm doing the same thing right now stuck between the 2 sizes but ordered md springs with bilstein 5100 that have 3 height settings I will be going with 3/4 setting. for the rear my situation is a little different because of how much weight I carry but I went with a superlift rear coil (because of added weight) and bilstein 5125 but you could stack spring insulators in the back if you needed more height in the rear I don't know when I'll get all of this installed we are expecting a new addition to the family Wednesday so there's no telling when I'll have time to finish this but will post my experience with my setup once completed

Re: 285s and OME

Thx for the help.. i measured mi hub to fender with OME MD..

its 21.5" in the front and 21.7 in the back...

why i have front so low ? a friend of mine have OME MD with HEMI (i have 4.7)
and he have 21.8 in the front and 21.7 in the back.. is there anything that could be affecting this ?

mi front is a little more lower than the back, is this normal ? i have ome MD with 4.7 engine.

From what I had read from OME is that is how they designed the coils for. I read on the ARB website that they were designed around original ride height vehicles with a possible 1/2" in front and rear. I could be wrong but hopefully this helps. If not call ARB. They are very helpful and try to answer any questions to the best of their knowledge.

Re: 285s and OME

285/70/17 done with combo OME/Bilstein 5100 and no problem.

Re: 285s and OME

What is the general consensus of extended brake lines for the modified OME and 285's?
