1. Raybestos Advanced Technology rotors and pads are another good alternative to consider. Got mine from Rock Auto. Decent price; good service. Rear pads/rotors doing well; plan to do the front rotors and pads later this Summer. [Rotors are not drilled or slotted.]

2. MOPAR has 2 grades: OEM and "Value Line", which are much cheaper. Factory pads were good for my DD, but they are $180 per axle for the pads. Value line are about $120 per axle. I can't provide any positive or negative feedback on Value Line. Maybe another member has used them....

Some race vehicles use drilled rotors however they are engineered from the beginning to avoid that very issue. Most street rotors like Brembo Drilled are not so they are subject to those issues.

Re: Best brake Pads for my Wk??

I like my drilled/slotted EBC's. They've held up in a spectacular fashion, especially since my daily driver is subject to only city conditions for the most part, with only the occassional highway usage.

Re: Best brake Pads for my Wk??

Go with Akebono. They make the OEM pads in for Jeep. I'll be using those once my 05 is ready. Also at least my 05 should have been ceramic from the OEM.

Re: Best brake Pads for my Wk??

Just thought I'd chime and throw another thumbs up for the thermo-quiets. I bought new rotors from R1Concepts and put new thermos on my front end at the same time and my braking was just incredibly better. Those brakes saved me from an accident back in January. I was literally six inches from rear ending a car on the highway (there was an accident in front of me and the guy in front of me rear ended the people in front of him...I had almost no warning) but I slammed on the brakes and swerved over into the shoulder. I stopped two cars up (where there was fender benders) and the truck behind me came all the way over into the damn grass on my right. It was terrible.

Anyway, I'll never own another car without putting these pads on them. If I had the old pads I wouldn't have had the necessary stopping force, IMO.

Re: Best brake Pads for my Wk??

I like to say I have Wagner Thermo quiets on my 05 for 5,000 mi and they are squeaking like crazy. I took the pads off and the back of the pad shims paint is chipping off down to the bare metal on the pad I lube the pad up it stopped for a day that was it. If someone got a idea to stop the squeaking let me know.

Re: Best brake Pads for my Wk??

I recently installed Wagner Thermoquiets with Wearever rotors. Have put over 1K miles on them since. They work fine for my needs but...

Still getting squeaking upon first (or first couple) applications of the brakes after each startup. After first couple applications they don't squeak anymore. Is this normal? I figured it might just be part of having ceramic pads and them needing to heat up.

If not normal, any recommendations?
