I have a black 08 and I'm wanting to change up my wheels. My original plan was to do Black SRT-8 20" Reps and keeping it a "street" trim ride.
But, after looking at some pics, I'm also considering getting a set of the Mamba MR-1's in black and going with an off road tire, basically the biggest thing I could fit under it without a lift, or doing a BB and something a little bigger.
I love the way BlackoutWK's jeep looks
But I also dig this look as well.
My questions are. . . .
Do the mamba's work on the WK's without spacers to clear the brakes? Or is that just with the Moabs?
With the back-spacing of the Mambas, what size tire can you fit on the WK's with stock suspension?
And any suggestions to help me make up my mind or pics of other rides with either of these set-ups would be greatly appreciated.
I know ultimately I need to decide if I want to go with a street trim Jeep or an Off Road trim, but I want to weigh all the options of each set-up before I pull the trigger either way.
I'd love to see a stock height black WK with Black Mambas and the biggest tires they can take with those wheels without a lift. That would make me very happy, lol
That would be OK, but if I go with the Mambas and rough tires, I'll go with a grill guard, etc. and make it O/R looking so I couldn't pull off the 20s with the low profile tires with it set up like that.
Gotcha. I know a couple of ppl from there that live here now.
You could go with just a roof rack for the O/R accessories and maybe some underbody protection and those can either be removed or transition over to the 20" reps for the winter
So, is it for sure that the Mamba's do not require spacers like the Moab's do on the 08s?
I doubt I'd do the dual wheel setup, that would then give me 3 sets of wheels, lol I don't drive the thing enough to need to switch em out. I have my 02 for the winter. But I still live in the country, so I'm a little iffy about putting the 20s on, might be too urban for my neck of the woods.
there is 1 guy on here (jeff05wk) running beefy tires with no lift and aev pintler wheels...you could try finding out the specs of the pintlers and compare them to the mamba's then ask him what all he had to do to get them to fit.
I'm going with the black Mamba MR-1s and a set of Dynapro RF10s in 255/70/17.
You guys think I can pull that size off without the pinch weld mod?
I just hope they don't stick out too far with that backspacing, may have to find some good looking mud guards (if there is such a thing as a good looking mud guard, lol)
Get the Mambas and a 265/65/17 or a 245/70/17 They will both fit w/o any mods and look great. I had 265/65/17s on my wk and loved them.
I think the 255/70/17 fits with little to no modding but i am not sure. Keep an eye on the upper ball joint bolt and the upper side wall. Make sure nothing is rubbing.
Glad i could help. Just make sure who ever installs them test fits one front tire and sets it on the ground and makes sure nothing rubs before wasting time install all 4. Thats what we always did at the tire shop i worked at and it saves alot of time and frustration.
I'm thinking the biggest issue would be the bolt with that size, and since the Mamba's have 4.75 backspacing, I would hope that issue wouldn't be a problem.
I love the Hancook Dynapro atm RF10. We installed them on hundreds of trucks and suvs and ive never heard a bad thing about them. They are a great tire.
You should be fine with the backspacing. Ive seen AEV Pintler wheels with that BS on a stock wk with stock tires and no issues and it looks fantastic, and they dont stick out too wide. There is also a guy on here with a mild lift and 265/70/17 BFG AT KO and Mamba mr1s and they look great and dont stick out too far.
Still making sure what size tire I want to go with. 265/65/17 is in the lead, but trying to find a pic of that size on a stock WK to make sure I don't want to try squeeze something bigger in there.
That's not my WK but no, the guy does not have the pinch weld mod. He did however cut the bolt. That's mostly due to the fact that they are Mud Terrains.
