Compact Spare Tire - '06 Overland

In the process of planning to lose my spare tire once I put on the new SRT bumper and exhaust I started searching for a compact spare that would be close to my current tire diameter and not take up a bunch of room on the inside. My plan is to eventually remove the factory rear floor kit and build a slightly taller floor which will fully conceal the tire and still provide me with a flat area on top for rear storage.

I ended up finding a spare tire on eBay that had the same wheel lug pattern and center bore as my '06 Overland. It's the donut spare for an '04-'08 Chrysler Pacifica and was about $85 shipped to my door. I mounted it up and it fits great! No rubbing and about a 1/4" clearance between the wheel and the OEM brake calipers. Here's how it compares to the 275/45/20's that I'm currently running on all four corners. As you can see below it is only about 3/4" smaller in diameter than my full size 20" tire. Does anyone know if the slight difference in diameter would have any effect on the transfer case should I ever need to use it a short distance?

Here's the chart comparing the two tire size(s).

Here are some photos of it installed.

Re: Compact Spare Tire - '06 Overland

My goal is to eventually build a raised floor over the top of the spare so there is flat storage space above it. With the original floor removed and this compact spare I would only need to build up the floor another few inches or so. To be continued.

Did you complete this project? I would love to see some pics on how you accomplished the rear floor area around the tire. I am looking at doing the same with my 09 SRT8. Also wondering how close those wheels would come to clearing the Brembo calipers...

Re: Compact Spare Tire - '06 Overland

If you have QDII, all 4 tires need to be the same diameter. I dont know how far you could drive on that before damage would occur, but even one new tire of the same type will cause damage, if installed with 3 existing tires that have some wear. I had an unrepairable sidewall puncture and had to buy a new set of 4, even though the other 3 had less than 20k. 3/4 of an inch is a huge difference, and not worth the risk of very costly damage, and getting stranded.
