Cross drilled rotor noise?

I installed a set of cross drilled rotors on the rear of my WK. They make an audible "coarse sandpaper on metal" sound when the brake is applied. I have stock pads. Otherwise the vehicle seems to stop fine.

Do cross drilled rotors normally sound different than a regular stock flat rotor?
