Re: For all those who ask about 265/70/17

If I were to run the OME MD suspension, what size tires could I fit on my 08 Overland without fender modification (1) on the stock 18" wheels and (2) with the AEV wheels on the Op's vehicle? My newb guess is 255/70R17 Toyo A/Ts would fit on the AEVs pretty well. Toyo says they are 31.1x10.2, making them approx .5" shorter and narrower than the 265/70R17s you guys are discussing in this thread. Thanks in advance.

Re: For all those who ask about 265/70/17

I was running an OME HD with AEV Pintlers and 265/70/17 BFG A/Ts. No spacers, no pinch weld mod, no rubbing anywhere, even at full lock, had plenty of room to stuff the tire in the wheel arch. Am now running 255/75/17 BFG M/Ts with the same results...no rubbing anywhere.

If you want larger tires & a lift and don't want to run spacers or do the pinch weld, Pintlers are the way to go. But to answer your questions:

1)You will have to run a 245 tire since the OEM wheels don't have the required offset for wider tires and not interfere with the bolt. You are pretty limited in A/T or M/T tire choices for 18". IF you go with a supper aggressive tread, you will need to do the pinch weld mod.
2)The 255/70s will be fine with the Pintlers and no lift. You won't need spacers and no pinch weld mod. The OP had to do the pinch weld with the 265s due to lack of lift. With an OME lift, you can bump up to 255/75 or 265/70 with no issues.

Re: For all those who ask about 265/70/17

Let me jump in and add to the confusion w/ my experience.

I was running 265/70/17 Firestone Destination AT's on stock rims with no spacers and no pinch-weld mod.(I have a 2.25" RC lift) There was slight rubbing on the inner wheel well which was remedied w/ a BFH. Two or three hits with a small sledge and it was all good. The tire was close to the bolt (UCA) but no rub.

Now I have added 1.5" spacers to widen the stance. I have no rub anywhere, however, a member on another forum with almost the exact set-up (255/75 w/ 1.5" spacers on an OME lift) also reported no rub until he went wheeling and almost sliced a tire when he stuffed the front wheel. So he did a trailside mod.

I wanted to avoid that, so I did do the pinch mod, but I left the plastic liner in tact because it looks better. If I do end up hitting it when wheelin' the worst that can happen is it tears the plastic liner, at least the tire will be o-k.

So far in my daily driving the tires have never made contact with any part of the truck. (Two months since I installed the spacers)

Re: For all those who ask about 265/70/17

Another thing I noticed is that:

Where the tires rub without a lift is where they will rub with a lift. And vise versa.

Another thing to look at is tread pattern/design.

Also, the further you bring the tire outside of the wheel well, the more chances you have of hitting the pinch. I have 255/75/17 mud tires (beefy tread) without spacers and I never hit the pinch. However, I did cut the bolt.

255/70r17 are 31" in height, these would be max height on stock wheels without any pintlers, no pinch weld mod, no spacers?
245/65r17 are 29.5" in height, these are a stock size and what I run in the winter.
245/60r18 are also 29.5" in height, there are a stock size and what I run in the summer.

255/75/17 BFG Mud Terrains fit on a bone stock WK also.

The owner of the WK below inspired me.

that is 32" in height. I like the look of those too!

the OP of this thread said 265/70r17 required mods to fit. A 265/70r17 is 31.5" in height.

Re: For all those who ask about 265/70/17

It's not the "height" of the tires that matters the most.......it's the "width".

They look great without a lift! Moving to the off-road section..
