Front sway bar bushing replacement..

I need to change out my front bushings and i was wondering how hard this is. i already have the bushings i just need to install them. Do i need to take off the whole sway bar or can i just put the front end on jack stands and do the bushings one at a time. any help would be great

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

leave it on the ground and get under there. remove the lip if needed. you can do one side at a time but you may want to try to support the bar as you remove that side. its just 2 bolts on each side. 17mm MAYBE.....geezer can't remember. do one at a time.

the torque is like 95 ft lbs. ill check that.

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

You may need to use a jack to raise up on the body and move the sway bar if you have problems getting the new ones on, but you can do it with it on the ground. I replaced the sway bar links on my wife's ZJ recently, it wasn't too bad.

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

you need to tighten it on the ground what ever you do. i think on the ground might be easier since there might not be much pressure on the bar. but whatever you think is easier.

but you tighten it on the ground!

here is the torques http://jeepgarage.org/showthread.php...ighlight=torks

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

You can do it on the ground. Depends on how big you are. LOL Only 4 bolts. take about 20min.

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

As mentioned, pretty simple task

Mine had a bolt in the way that was attached to a hose or something... It was a 10mm bolt i just undid, then changed everything, then put it back in.

I did have mine jacked up though just to make it easier to work under there.

Re: Front sway bar bushing replacement..

Where are you guys ordering the replacement bushings from? Might add this to the list of little projects I need to do.
