Largest tire

What's the largest tire I can fit in my stock spare location with hitch? I have 255/75-17s now but they won't fit. I need new tires and want the spare back in the stock location.

Re: Largest tire

I have a 2011 Overland and I just put a 275/65/18 (32.1 x 10.8") in mine. It touched the sides, but the extra storage pockets still fit. I would go with a narrower tire though. My cover is about .5" higher than it was. Not too noticeable and I'm not gonna change anything for that.

Re: Largest tire

If your hitch is like my 05, then:
remove it
Knock off or grind off the welded on nuts
Replace with carriage bolts, pushing them through the front and put nuts on the bumper side.
If all else fails, air down the tire and keep a small compressor in the jeep. It's not a bad idea to keep one in there anyway. A 255/75-17 fits in mine.

WK spares are stored outside of the vehicle.

You're posting in the "WK" forum...

OP - I believe the largest tire you can squeeze (although you may have to slightly deflate) into the WK spare tire well, without cutting/modding anything, is a 30.5". I have read that others have done this... I have 265/65r17's (30.6") and plan to test-fit a 265/65 spare soon myself... (245/70r17 are also 30.5", but a bit narrower)

But, as someone else mentioned, you can cut or replace/reconfigure the hitch mount bolts and get another inch or so of clearance (meaning another two inches or so of diameter... so, your current 32" spare should fit if you go that route). You may also have to look at bending or cutting the exhaust/muffler heat shield a little too, with the 32", but there is room for that too.

Re: Largest tire

Another quick note, I keep it deflated so it doesn't rub the track bar. It won't rub much if inflated, but to me any rubbing is bad.
