This is an adventure. I left out the half steps in between. Just know that each half step is either a beer, cigarette, or both.
Step 1) Order Powerslot slotted and frozen rotors, Hawk ceramic pads, and stainless brake lines
Step) Go pick up self etching primer, paint, brake fluid, and brake cleaner locally
Step 3) Wait for parts to arrive
Step 4) Parts arrive, prep work area
Step 5) get distracted and paint engine cover (2 day process and another adventure)
Step 6) Force self to finally start brake job
Step 7) raise front end and put on jack stands, remove front wheels
Step 8) begin to clean calipers while on WK
Step 9 ) realize that this is stupid because you have to remove them anyway
Step 10) remove calipers
Step 11) break down caliper and find one float pin completely frozen
Step 12) check local part stores for availability of calipers and price, find all 3 have them and Napa has the best price
Step 13) debate on whether to attempt freeing float pin or just go get new calipers
Step 14) pick up hammer and punch, beat the shit out of float pin, chip the side of it, wrap calipers in towel and shove in a box
Step 15) go to Napa
Step 16) walk in carrying box with calipers wrapped in towel, ask if they would like some puppies, get strange looks, and then find out that they really don't have them in stock and can get them Saturday morning.
Step 17) Go to Advance Auto Parts
Step 18) Find that they have them in stock and at the same price as Napa (HAPPY)
Step 19) bring pristine new calipers home and set up bench to prep for painting
Step 20) Call into conference call for work
Step 21) mute phone and mask off calipers after breaking them down
Step 22) stop and talk on the conference call
Step 23) hit mute again
Step 24) set up and hang calipers and brackets on a pipe suspended from 2 ladders
Step 25) spray everything liberally with brake cleaner
Step 26) Let dry and then coat with self etching primer
Step 27) neighbor calls and needs a ride to pick up truck
Step 28) looks like rain so move parts indie garage to dry
Step 29) take neighbor to get truck
Step 30) decide that since it is now a torrential downpour, go grocery shopping for the weekend, Hmmm, wearing work jeans and ratty tshirt along with do rag. Nope, not gonna be getting any girls phone numbers on this grocery trip.
Step 31) Return home with groceries and put away.
Step 32) eat
Step 33) rain stopped, put parts back outside.
Step 34) it's dark, move truck and shine headlights onto work area
Step 35) paint calipers and brackets red (2 coats)
Step 36) immediately after second coat, rain starts back, but only a light drizzle
Step 37) frantically bring parts back inside garage to dry
Step 38) shut garage door, turn out light with a sense of satisfaction because the parts look very good
Step 39) wash hands in sink, hear crash in garage
Step 40) Enter garage and find a caliper that has fallen directly onto a sealed 5 gallon bucket of molasses (don't ask), busted the lid. and is sticking inside the bucket
Step 41) Pull caliper out of molasses bucket and stand there and watch it drain off while shaking head
Step 42) rehang all parts more securely
Step 43) share pain
Hopefully I can finish the front tomorrow without any more character building experiences. It should be fun removing the molasses and touching up the paint. LOL And this is just the front.
