Re: R1 Slotted Rotors and HPS Pads

If Porshe and AMG put them on from the factory.......then........maybe they do have some effect other than "looks".

Re: R1 Slotted Rotors and HPS Pads

^^ agreed! which was my dilema...but my Jeep is not a nimble low-slung Porsche or AMG and I do not need that kind of performance (just stopping power, no track or continuous stopping for me)...so we shall see!

Re: R1 Slotted Rotors and HPS Pads

Just wanted to give an update on the brakes in case anybody else is considering Hawk HPS pads. The cold performance has improved greatly after giving them a few months to break in. They still have very low friction for about the first 2-3 stops, but then they're awesome once warmed up (much more friction than OEM pads). Overall, I'd recommend the HPS pads... and the R1 rotors have been great, too.

Re: R1 Slotted Rotors and HPS Pads

Ok some food for thought, I work on DIRT modified race cars, hence the username "Speedtech", we use drilled rotors at the wheels we wish to REDUCE braking power, and we use solid rotors at the wheels we want GREATER braking power. On my own personal Jeeps I have installed EBC rotors that where dimpled and slotted with Performance Friction pads, this combo had a loud whirring type noise and cold performance was un-acceptable. I swapped the pads for some high quality Raybestos semi-metallics and stopping improved greatly. On my newest Jeep, an '06 Hemi Limited, I went with A/C Delco Durastop rotors all around and the Hawk LTS brake pads. This combo has great cold stopping power and AWESOME warm grip, they only downfall is some slight dust. It is my opinion that the Hawk LTS brake pads are a better choice than the Hawk HPS pads. Whatever you do do not get the Performance Friction pads as I know several people that used them and they all had the same result as myself, horrible cold stopping.
