REVIEW: General tire GMax AS-03
Well I recently installed my General tires GMax AS-03's on my jeep as a replacement set for the ones that got stolen back in 2013. I was originally gonna go back with the Nitto 420's I had as I really liked how they felt and rode, but decided to shop around. I checked all the brands for the tire sizes I wanted, 255/45/R20 and 285/40/R20. nitto being the ones I know for a fact that carry them sizes. Now I took cost and tire ratings into consideration on this. For the money, the Gmax's are better rated in terms of traction over the nitto 420's and they are about 120$ cheaper. However they don't have a 285 width tire. so I compromised there and got a 275.
So, here is my initial impression of the general tire gmax as03's. at first they felt a lot like the nittos in the dry. quick response and tons of grip, I mean tons of it. Now keep in mind I am up north in MI, so the weather has been snowy and roads wet (and salty). this is where the gmax's shine over the 420's. I actually have some grip in the snow with very little slip (unless I make it slip) and they perform like the nittos in the wet but I feel a kittle more confident entering corners with the gmax's installed. with the nittos I had experienced some tire slip on corner entry when it was wet and I wanted to play.
How they ride? they ride like the nitto's do as well. not harsh but controlled and forgiving, without being to mushy. I say they equal the nitto in terms of ride quality. now as of right now, they are a touch noisy where as the 420's where relatively quite. but I kinda expected some noise on this tire. this isn't a deal breaker as I think they will quite down as they wear.
this is all I have for now. I will update this when the weather warms and can take them out for a hard drive. plus by then they should wear in better too.
size: 255/45/r20 and 275/40/r20. 739$ shipped from discount tire. I say they are a definite buy and a cheaper alternative if money is a little tight!
