Post spare tire winch

Anyone else have an issue where the spare tire winch only pulls the spare up about half way and stops? After changing a flat thats what mine is doing. Are they serviceable? I only found replacements on eBay for $120ish which is more than I was thinking its worth, then again, I'd prefer to not have the spare in the cargo area too. Anyone rig up another solution?

mine did it too, when I would rotate tires I used the spare to support a corner as I moved tires around. theres been a few times when winching it (spare) back into place where it would come up 3/4ths the way and get very hard to turn. I eventually ditched the spare and hoist/winch. upon inspection of the winch I discovered that the cable was kinked and has started to come apart. but in the name to save weight I removed about 65-75 pounds from the truck. did you check out rockauto.com? they tend to have parts for cheap

Re: spare tire winch

At least I'm not alone. I looked on rockauto, but didn't find the part listed.

I could've sworn they had it on rockauto.com.

Re: spare tire winch

Ended up finding a part with warranty on car-part.com for $40.
