Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

I am going with Koni's. I have them on my '89 SHO and had them on a 240z track car and really like their damping characteristics with adjustable rebound. Best handling shocks out there IMO. Here is the link for the product http://www.koni-na.com/HeavyTrack.cfm

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Install is all done!!!! Jeep is sitting about 3 inches lower all around. Total install took about 4-5 hours. It could have been faster if we didn't run into a couple of problems.

1. The botl on the fork of the stock strut on the driver side would NOT come out...Did every trick you could think of including using air tools. FINALLY got it out after about 45 minutes of hammering and such.

2. The rear springs on a stock WK dont need a spring compressor but it would be a little helpful to have one. The srt springs look like they would just pop out in the tutorial i was using. But the stockers are pretty tough. I pretty much had to stand in the wheel well and pull up as hard as I could to get them out.

3. I SNAPPED THE FRIGGIN SWAY BAR BOLTS! I think it could have been because I took them earler this week to paint the sway ( which i didnt anyways) but when I put them back on, the bolts snapped in half, while they were in the nuts...

So problem 3 is the issue here... Right now its heavily zipped tied to the axle. The sway links and the other bracket are holding it in place but I need to get the bolt ends out and need to get new bolts and bolt it up. Anyone have a part number?

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

FWIW, now wondering if anyone has installed these on a WK, this is from Dirt Road Magazine:

To be honest, we weren't quite sure what to expect when we installed a set of SensaTrac shocks onto our 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee project, but the results have been nothing short of amazing. Our ZJ finally acts like it has graduated at the top of its class from obedience school. Gone is the infamous "covered wagon" feel, and there is now only one bounce per bump. Even my mood while driving this Jeep has greatly improved, due in part to a much more positive and solid-feeling ride.

Off road handling is also much better; the Jeep has increased traction and minimal wheel-hop. Driving on wash-board roads no longer requires a trip to the dentist or chiropractor afterward.

Overall, we are extremely impressed with our Monroe SensaTrac shock absorbers, and can highly recommend them to all but the most extreme Jeepers...for them the Rancho RS9000-X is probably a better choice

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Just checking with the pros. I want to get a suspension down the road, and I want to price exactly what I'll need done in regards to suspension.

About my driving:
I commute about 70 miles each day, some stop and go at certain spots, also drive around town and go on trips with the Jeep.

Needs:
Smooth solid feel; negate the airy feeling of the stock suspension.

Assumption:
WK Bilsteins

I am assuming I only need the Bilsteins considering most of my driving is on the road. I do plan on using it on trips where we need to do some rougher dirt/gravel but nothing true offroading.

One question I have, what else can I improve in the ride without sacrificing the following:
  • Too stiff
  • Lowering the vehicle

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Go with the WK Bilsteins. That will give you what you want.

As far as other improvements. SRT sways. Bwoody links... It will stiffen up the jeep but not too stiff.

I just installed a ton of stuff, ( see post above) and my girlfriend cant tell a difference, which is a good thing.

Re: The complete (05-09) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Thanks you two, much appreciated. I lurk as much as I can before asking a question. I know how annoying it can be if someone asks without bothering to search or think about it first.

And, yes, girlfriends are an excellent test. If the ride doesn't feel changed to them, yet you feel all the improvements, money well spent!

Is that the finished pic, thats 3" lower than stock? And you got lucky, just to change my springs took me and my cousin about 12 hours goofing off, eating and drinking while doing it.
