Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

well guys i installed the front struts..... yes i did need spring compressors!

i have a superlift kit installed so for future reference you will need them if you have the same set up (it was 2 inches away the top plate)

they are way better than what i had on there since i could move the old strut with my oily hand when i took the spring off

they are stiffer no much bounce anymore

i took them out for some light off road and saw a big difference alot more control

oh yea and almost and extra inch lift

I may be wrong but believe there will be kits for both standard ride height in addition to lifted kits. The OME's provided are modified from stock and have custom valving to work with the 2 different King spring sets.

HEY. I know you.. In addition Andy, I ordered the WK Bilsteins from allshock.com. I scrapped the Tire Rack order as they could not deliver prior to us getting our springs installed.......

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Weird, I was just logging on to post and warn folks about this. I did the same thing and decided to put the washer in (nothing like doing struts twice). The OEM struts have a raised shoulder where the strut hits the camber plate. The Bilsteins have a less pronounced edge that's turned into the strut piston. the washer sites on this turned edge and provides more support at the plate to keep the piston from pushing thru. I missed the washer on my initial install and once I realized what it was for, I decided to put it in just to be safe. I ran for a week without them and nothing looked damaged when I added the washer but I feel safer driving now.

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Another installation note on the regular (not SRT) Bilsteins. I replaced mine on a 2005 WK 4.7 GC and it was a pain getting them out.

Even with the upper balljoin pulled and lower sway bar link removed the passenger side just barely comes out with the clevis bracket still on the strut (I had to turn the wheels hard right to get enough travel on the lower arm).

The driver's side didn't have enough clearance no matter what I did so I had to tap off the clevis fork before I could pull the strut/spring assembly out. Likewise, I had to finesse the clevis fork back on on the driver's side after getting the strut back in the tower.

Most of the work wasn't bad but the act of physically removing them from the wheel well and getting them back in wasn't much fun due to the lack of clearance.

Shocks on the other hand were a piece of cake. Two bolts and plenty of room to get things in and out.
