Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Hi Scottina06, i have a question, about the bwoodys springs, they comes with a upgraded energy suspension bump stop, that comes with a washer, that says: "You MUST put supplied washer between the bump stop and its mounting surface or the part may fail", thats exactly means, between the bump stop and the metal cup that use to hold the oem bump stop, or between the metal cup and the chasis rail.

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Purchased a OME 2" suspension lift but was #12 on the list of their 10 piece run. Unfortunately had to cancel order as it was going to be at least 3-4 weeks until they were going to do another WK production build.

Went with a Rough Country 2" suspension lift and a buddy and I installed it in about 3 hours. Ended up replacing the front shocks as well as one was blown which took some additional time.

You need to have the right tools though and the install will be MUCH easier. Used spring compressor kit on the fronts because the spacers left little room for squeezing in the strut assy. Didn't have to grind down the strut studs as indicated in the instructions. I'm guessing that the Commander (this kit fits both Grands and the Commander) studs are longer. As one would imagine, the installation on the rears were easy with one exception.

There is a fuel tank encasement that interferes with the support arm for the rear axle. When we put the spacers on the left rear side, we had to cut away some of the flange of this encasement to allow the support arm (not sure if this term is correct) to travel the additional distance as the spacer lowered that arm and it interfered with the tank guard. Used an air reciprocating saw to get the job done and then there was plenty of clearance.

Put on Kelly Safari Trex 265/70-R17 tires on the factory rims as I couldn't (unfortunately) afford some nicer units. Still looks sweet though and I will post a pic soon.

If anyone has any questions about this Rough Country suspension lift install, please let me know as I may have some pearls for you.

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

One other quick thing about the Rough Country 2" suspension lift. If you are going to put 265/70-R17 tires on it would be a good idea to grind down or cut off the end of the ball joint stud as there is the potential for rubbing on the tire. When I had the tires installed, I brought it to their attention and they did it for me.

Hope this helps.

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Alright guys,

I have just installed a set of srt bilsteins front and rear with a set of bwoodys...It seems as if something is not right with the fronts because the front bumpstop now sits right on top of the actual strut . It looks like there isnt any travel allowed between the front strut and the bumpstop...its very tight. after im done typing this i will go get some pictures to post. Does anyone have any pictures of the same set up im talking about for comparison? heres what ive got for measurements before an after, keep in mind i have a 2wd and a tow package:

before After

Front left- 18.5" 17.75"
front right- 18.5" 17.50"

Rear left- 19.50" 17.50"
Rear right- 19.50" 17.50"
(measured from center of axle to top of wheel well)

So it looks like I gained a 1" drop in the front and 2" in the rear. I got the bwoodys from modern horsepower. The package came marked as bwoody/roadmagnet and came with the upgraded bumpstops for the rear. I have an email into mhp to see which version these are and the advertised drop.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

if your sitting close to the bumpstop...then yes.....thats how it is. Ive said several times on here the Bwoodys are an extreme drop spring and not for everyone. The drop for nonsrt's with the bwoodys and no srt bilsteins is 2" plus. You are about right at 1"+ with the SRT bilsteins

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Oh, I dont mind the drop at all, just doesnt seem right that the bumpstops in the front are literally sitting on the struts themselvs?how does the strut travel with zero space between the bumpstop and the strut? And better yet, my jeep now sits perfectly level! My question is this, how would a wk with bwoodys sit lower with non srt bilsteins vs str bilsteins when the srt bilstein is about two inches shorter than the stock shock/strut?

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

After waiting a month my Bilstein shocks finally arrived today. I already have the 2" RC lift waiting to be installed. I still need to order spacers and I think I am going to go with 265/70/17 BFG's AT. Is n e one running a similiar set up? Did you have any rubbing issues? How is the ride compared t o stock?
