Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Suspension Class 101 since I'm a NOOB:

For the past 6 months I've noticed a decline in the overall ride of my Jeep. 2 months ago I had some moans/groans as mentioned here.

"Squeaky" Sound coming from front suspension

I've been too busy to attend to them and I haven't noticed it as much since it's gotten colder.

Lately when taking some turns I've gotten a feeling similar to what it would feel like if I were sliding in snow.

Questions:

1) What problems could lead to that?^^^^
2) What are some symptoms of bad springs?
3) What are some symptoms of bad shocks?

Thanks.

Most of the time, yes. Mainly because the tapered shaped of the ball joint pin will be holding it firmly enough into the spindle to remove it. But when you're putting it back in there won't be enough tension there yet and it'll just spin.

Which I'm now contending with as the hex stud on mine sheared off when I was taking it apart. Now I have to replace the ball joint.

sounds like you need some new springs/shocks/struts and sway bushings. Check out your upper balljoints too.

How low do you wwant to go...low like my Jeep...or just the stock SRT8 drop?

I def. recommend the front/rear SRt sway bars and bushings, new shocks and struts and the drop spring of your choice.

Good news is you can clamp the upper ball joint down into the spindle with a HF ball joint press and it'll be tight enough to get the proper torque on the stud, without having the hex end on there to hold it. I got mine back together without having to replace the upper ball joint.

Side note, do not forget to completely tighten the nut on the top of the strut shock. If you do you'll have to totally disassemble the spindle again to get a wrench back in there to hold the nut. Or, as someone else suggested, grind the hole at the top of the strut larger to reach down in there. I prefer to avoid hacking up the metal, but I was sorely tempted...

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

Newb looking for suspension help on my '07 WK 5.7 Limited:

After reading through a bit of this very helpful thread (thanks everyone!), I have deicided to go with the Bilstein HD front/rear shocks & struts. Seems like a no brainer and a good bang for your buck.

I'm just curious if there is anything else I should consider doing to improve the ride when I get this work done? I read that SRT front/rear sway bars perform well?

Links? springs?

I didn't want to spend too much money right away...I'm thinking I should just start with the Bilstein HD's first? Just wondering if there is anything that should be a must have with the Bilsteins?

Keeping in mind I do not want to lower my Jeep at all, I like the lifted look with the right tires and good for off-road.
