Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

You guys are awesome!! I'm new to this site and have been racking my brain in order to convert my 06 limited. You answered a lot of my questions without me asking. The rides look sweet fellas!

anyone? SRT bilsteins work with a slight lift or no?

Not really meant for that. SRT bilsteins are shorter and meant to be used with shorter coils, like the SRT or aftermarket lowering coils. I just did my install and I can tell you that the SRT coils in the front are 12.25" and the Hemi coils that I removed are 14.0". That's a big difference. If a lift is your goal, I'd stay with the HD Bilsteins.

BTW, How did you break a HD bilstein the rear? Those should be pretty sturdy shocks. Are you offroading with the jeep? Just curious.

I couldn't find a pic of wk strut vs. srt strut, but I have one with the rear shocks which should illustrate why it might be a poor choice for a lift.

Re: The complete (05-10) WK Grand Cherokee suspension thread

SRT Bilstein shocks are dangerous on a stock height or lifted Jeep. They should only be used in conjunction with shorter springs/lowering application. There's simply not enough travel in the SRT springs to compensate and they "top-out" while extending on big bumps (as opposed to the traditional "bottoming-out" when worn shock compress).

Thank you for the response. So I guess if I want those ill be lowering her. I currently run the bilstein HDs in the front and I'm not too impressed with them, was looking for something alittle softer.

As for how I broke my rear shock- lets just say a faulty wheel spacer lost a couple studs making a turn at 40mph and the wheel came loose and tucked inward snapping the shocks arm.

Ewwweeee! Not fun. Reminds me of my 65 mustang when I forgot to put in the cotterpin on the front hub bearings and it vibrated loose. I pulled over before the wheel fell off, but the drum brake was destroyed!

I would describe the srt bilsteins as a firm sporty ride. If you want soft, go back to stock or look at another brand. You have monroe in the rear, why not the front..?

What is your goal, raise, lift or level?

My goal is level... My rear will be at least an inch higher with the Monroe load levelers back there. So I'm going to level the front with stacked strut spacers from JBA or rustys. So overall just under or about 1" of lift. I think I'm just going to go with Monroe's in the front as well.

by high perfromance....I mean a lowered, street machine meant for carving up the curves. If you want a better, cushy ride...the SRt Bilsteins are not for you. they are stiffer than the Bilstein HD's.

That's what I want to know, thank you. I would love to carve corner and have my WK ride on rails. But with the plan on having 1" of lift, what's the point.
