I'm hoping to run a 285/70r17 or 295 either in a Nitto Trail Grappler or Goodyear Duratracs. But I have almost new BFG mud terrains from a 2013 Rubicon on it now, so that won't be for awhile...

I know from experience once the lift settles, you will prob want the extra height the spacers I described provide. Especially up front with the HEMI. It's a bit more added cost, but it's better to do it all at once to save you the hassle of taking everything apart again later. Make sure you talk to Kolak for the OME lift, he's got the best prices out there.

If you wanted a little more height, you could use a set of rusty's 1/4" spacers up front giving you another 1/2" of lift and their poly spacer trimmed down to give you another 1.5" of lift in the rear. If you do the spacers on top of the OME you will need a few more parts though. In front: JBA or RRO upper control arms would be a good idea to help correct the angle some. For the rear: Extended sway bar links, adjustable track bar, and notching the fuel tank skid would be a good idea. I'm planning to do all of these mods very soon. It's as close as I can get to the height of the SL lift without the extra cost for install. Omelet, Oscar, and a few others used to run this same style of lift with little to no problems at all. It's a good alternative if you want some extra height for clearance purposes.
I would not recommend using a spacer (even if just a 1/4) on top of the OME HD. With the OME your front hub to fender measurement is going to be at around 23 inches. 23 is the max height you want to go and even at 23 is pushing it IMO.

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Thanks for all the feedback. I wont be adding a ton of extra weight cause I'll be doing some pretty modest off-roading and wont need a ton of armor. Ill contact Kolak and get pricing on the OME kit. First install will be my air intake, that should be here next weekend. Thanks again.

Yeah, I completely agree with that. Pushing it above 23" has major potential to cause problems later on. I was originally right at 23" when I first installed the lift. After the lift fully settled I'm actually about 22" up front and 21.75" in the rear. But then again I have full skids, roof rack, and 2 tool bags in the back with sub box. I've been monitoring my front suspension very closely the last few months and the angle isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Now, I do offroad my jeep but not as much as some. Just wanted to increase the height a bit before upgrading tire size. Do you think another half inch up front would make that big of difference in the long run? I haven't heard any horror stories yet but maybe you have.

It's just a "theory" I have. The lifted WK is still in the early years. We have a base of information but only time will tell how lifts effect the WK. AcidCold trashed his front end with a stacked RRO and RK lift. Omelet and Tosh destroyed multiple racks with stacked OME kits. After 6 plus years of running a BB I had to replace my entire front end.

These WK even stock have front end problems. IMO the lifts increase your chances of having issues. I think there is a direct correlation to amount of time lifted and amount wheeled, till not IF but WHEN you will have some sort of front end issues. I personally think that if you want to wheel it then the only lift to buy is the SL. If you just want bigger rubber, do the pinch weld, buy some new rims and stuff some 265/70/17 on the stock suspension.

Again this is just my opinion. Only time will tell if I am right or wrong. I absolutely love my WK. its the best jeep I have ever owned but IMO it was made for soccer moms, not wheeling.

Not that, that will stop me from disproving my own theory.

^^^ A lot of good info in that post! Yeah, everyone with a lifted vehicle should take in consideration that one day they WILL have problems with parts. It's really only a matter of time before something breaks. But like you I wouldn't trade my jeep for anything. By the height of the original suspension and the way it was set up you can tell it was mostly made for soccer moms. No doubt about it.

I'm no hard core wheeler, and that was never my intent when buying my jeep. It is my DD for example. You're right in the fact it is still too early to tell what exact problems will arise in the long run of owning a lifted WK. Like most, I am prepared for whatever comes along, as anyone should. There's a saying I always have believed in "The only regrets in life are the risks you never took." So for now, I'm enjoying it

Don't get me wrong. If I could go back in time I would still lift it. I wouldn't change a thing. The 6 years I got out of the lift was worth every penny. However when I bought my lift the SL wasn't available. Personally I think if you want to lift it, the SL is the way to go.

I probably wont do the SL cause I wont be wheeling it very much and when i do, it'll be pretty mild. Its my DD, so I wont be doing anything too crazy in it. 6yrs out of a major mod is pretty good IMO, looking forward to it. Now just for the damn feds to get my tax return to me!

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

No doubt about that! I would have loved to be able to afford the SL lift, but I'm on a college budget and would have had to have it installed (I wouldn't feel comfortable doing the cuts even with a guide). But the OME is still a great alternative for those who can't afford the SL. Thanks Lucas for the advice on the spacers. I'm gonna look into a bit more. I might end up being a guinea pig and test it out for long term. We'll see.
