Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Great thread.

Looking for some advice for my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 5.7 L Hemi with QDII.

Current setup: Stock coils, RRO 2.25" BB spacer rear/front, OME HD Front Struts, RRO rear shocks (not much info on these rear shocks at the moment).

I'm not happy with the handling of my shock/strut setup, and the front OME HD struts seem very noisy compared to when my vehicle was stock (not sure if it's that, or the coil/spacer mix, etc). Sounds clunky and very "squishy" sounding from the front when going over bumps, etc.

Idea 1. Keep RRO spacers all around, put in Bilstein HD shocks/struts, stock coils (possibly XK hemi coils up front down road for winch weight if WK hemi coils can't handle weight - will this raise height of front?)

Idea 2. Remove RRO spacers all around, put in Bilstein HD shocks/struts with OME HD coils all around. (assuming OME HD coil can handle weight of winch)

Any advice on which option? I feel I am turned off the OME shocks/struts which is why I thought the Bilstein HD with OME coils...but perhaps my setup is just incorrect, and has given me a negative view on the OME struts.

Also, keeping in mind the below, would you recommend the Bilstein HD shocks/struts or the Bilstein 5100 shocks/struts? (what would be better for what I'm doing?)

-I tow a small camp trailer (likely a bigger one in the future)
-Mainly city/hwy driving with mild-moderate off-roading - this is my daily driver....hopefully 100% trail rig in the future though...

Also, does anyone know the coil spring weight rating of the front 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with Hemi/QDII? I am trying to compare this to the XK Hemi front coil rating of around 600lb's - need to know for when I install my hidden front winch mount + winch...if I actually need to change my stock front coils.

Sorry this was long, I did my lift the 1st time not being 100% happy, don't want to make that mistake the 2nd time. Looking for recommendations from some fellow lifted WK's out there.

Thanks!

My latest build in its current state. Brushed aluminum side trim in place of the factory plastic and the snorkel is from River Raider off road.

One of these days I'm going to update my build thread...the tires are 315/70/17 and yes it's a River Raider snorkel cap. I ran the ductwork down to my stock airbox. Here is some fun from this weekend!

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Hi everyone,
(I had posted this on the wrong thread, so here it is on the right one)
I've been browsing through the suspension forum for the past few days, and I've really enjoyed reading both the information and the banter. I figured I'd enjoy even more as a member,so here I am. I live north of the border, and I own a stock 2005 WK hemi limited with 170k km. I'm probably due for some new shocks and struts, and I'd like to lift it 2 inches and add some bigger rubber, something that will let me drive further down the trail before I get stuck. Now like every newbie, I've got lots of questions, and I'm looking forward to your opinions.
I didn't come across any posts suggesting Bilstein 5100's set to 2" up front with Bilstein 5100's with 2" spacers in the back, is that a viable option? Why is everyone going for the Bilstein HD gear instead?
I'm thinking of getting Procomp 17x8 wheels with 0 offset, 4.5" backspace with Fierce Attitude 265/70/17 tires. Now with the wheel being 2" further away from the suspension (minus the tire width increase of .5" on the inside) and the 2.2" increase in tire height, will I still need 1.5" spacers?

I would guest cost being the main factor between HD and 5100.

I went with pro comp 17x9 wheels with -6mm offset, 4.75 bs and 265/65/17 tires. This setup did not need spacers. I would expect the 0 offset to move the tire even further out away from the fender, I have still room in my setup (also did a pinch weld mod), and considering the 9 inch wide wheels would stretch the tires out further.

I am trying to find a thread where someone did confirm 17x8 with 6 offset would be ok with 265/70/17, and no spacers .. will post if/when I find

EDIT: Here it is, and corrected to +6mm offset: check this thread out Lifts and tire size thread :)

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Thank you for the info and the link! I think I'm on the right track with the wheels and tires, I just need to sort out the Bilstein options. I'll do some price comparisons between the HD's (with a 2" lift kit) and 5100's (with rear lift kit only) to see how it works out.

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

The 5100s are a viable and imho better option then a coil spacer lift. Better handling and high quality suspension. The HDs are more for stock unless you add a spacer which is an inferior setup to the 5100. Plus you save money not having to buy HD and a front space and you have a far superior and designed to perform setup. All you would need are rear spacers but this setup is max at 2". Any more and you will need supporting mods to account for the added suspension height and mobility. For ex control arms sway links etc. I am doing the 5100s all around and doing a 1" setup to make 245/65/17s or 255/70/17s not look stuffed and to level my jeep. I dont want to do a full lift. I have firestone ride rite air bags in the rear coils to adjust the rear suspension height. Im not happy with my HD 4600 struts and stock rear shocks. Also my RF strut is leaking after 3 or 4 years. Going to try and get that warrantied. I had 5100 on my 6" lifted xj years ago and i loved the performance both off road on road and trails at speed as well as rock crawling.

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Thanks Kyle!
I was happy to read your post just now because I ordered the 5100 set this afternoon, shocks and adjustable struts. It would have been a downer if you had blasted the 5100's.
I will only be lifting the jeep 2", I don't want to get into all that extra stuff.
While at the store, I checked out the Procomp 7089 17x8 black wheels I want. It's nice to be able to see the real thing instead of just photos on a website. I'll order those next month when I get over the cost of the 5100's .
