Plus you save money not having to buy HD and a front space and you have a far superior and designed to perform setup. All you would need are rear spacers but this setup is max at 2". Any more and you will need supporting mods to account for the added suspension height and mobility. For ex control arms sway links etc. I am doing the 5100s all around and doing a 1" setup to make 245/65/17s or 255/70/17s not look stuffed and to level my jeep. I dont want to do a full lift. I have firestone ride rite air bags in the rear coils to adjust the rear suspension height. Im not happy with my HD 4600 struts and stock rear shocks. Also my RF strut is leaking after 3 or 4 years. Going to try and get that warrantied. I had 5100 on my 6" lifted xj years ago and i loved the performance both off road on road and trails at speed as well as rock crawling.
The above still assumes a spacer lifter (in the rear). I agree 5100 would outperform the HDs, but for true lift without spacers would probably be better off with an OME kit. I also heard of some mixing 5100s with OME springs (anyone has this setup I am keen to know how this config performs). Compared to the stock shocks, the HD is a massive improvement IMO, the handling is quite good both inroad and off road, depends on application .. wheeling here is usually desert dune driving, which does not require the same articulation/wheel travel as rocks for instance ... hence spacer lifts are quite an acceptable route. In the end, I think its best to design for the usage/priorities ... my 2c

I do intend to swap out the spacer+HD+springs eventually once I get into rocks here, with a lift through springs and shocks, but would prefer to go with something that does not require spacers front or rear , hence OME or OME/5100 combo...

Re: The Official Lifted WK Thread

Installed an rc 2" lift, but am getting a grinding/lockup on u turns. When I installed it I loosened the UCA, could this have done it? Also used a pickle fork to remove the tie rods and did not replace them. The sway links were also difficult to reattach, and required quite a bit of force, is this normal?

Might not be entirely relevant but still a good read, I had a suspension 'clunk' when I lifted Finally got rid of suspension clunk

I would have expected you needed to loosen the UCA to get the front RC spacers in. My workshop removed the UCA completely to install the lift. The sway links are connecting at a different angle to stock, but not considerably different on a 2" lift, so there should be a bit more force required to place them back, I am assuming here

Did you do a pinch weld, are the tires rubbing on the fender liner perhaps when you do a full wheel lock ?

I would also recommend a wheel alignment once everything settles out very important after change in suspension geometry.

Tires are not rubbing, and I already did a wheel alignment. Caster is off but cross caster is ok. Is this normal?

How far off is it in degrees? does it drive in a straight line easily or are you compensating?

It is off by .3 and .7 degrees on left and right from the factory specified range.

I think I had a full degree off right after the lift. Will check for you the alignment results I had back then, and will also do a wheel alignment this week so will check the caster figures against what you got.

I recall there is a bot on the lower control arm that allows minor adjustments to the caster, might be worth checking if there is any compensation achieved there on the right side at least.

They did adjust that bolt, it's set as far as it can.

Actually I figured out it was the traction control that was kicking in for some reason on u turns. Any idea what could cause this?
