Tires question

I have had my tires for a year. They are bf goodrich radial t/a spec 245/55/18 and i was wondering how long most people have there tires and wheels for. I want to upgrade to 22s but i want to wait until they get more worn down. I am drivingnon streets not off road. And it seems like some people upgrade theirs really often. How many YEARS do tires usually wear down? About 2 years?

Re: Tires question

No real authoritative answer on this one.

Depends on the type of driving you do, the climate you live in, whether the vehicle is parked in a garage or outside, the amount of mileage put on the vehicle a year, how well the tires are maintained, the specific synthetic compound used in the tire, etc., etc., etc.,

Anything from 20,000 miles to 80,000 miles is possible.

The material the tires are made of degrades even as the vehicle is sitting.

Most people recommend keeping a tire a maximum of 5-6 years regardless of tread depth. As the artificial rubber wears out, you start to see cracking in the sidewall indicating it is time to think about replacement.

Short answer - a year is still relatively early in a tire's useful life.
