Tpms delete....

Ok so I have 10 moab's on their way and I want to delete my tpms. Why? well only because you ask
1) I am running much higher pressures towing the car trailer using load range D/E tires
2) I hate the valve stems and they are hunks of crap that corrode in NE weather
3) they are unreliable and when the battery goes weak, they read half pressures...

My plans to do the delete kit is to remove sensors, rubber valve stems, remove the Cluster, pull the bulb for the indicator and use black rtv to coat it.

Other then that It should be ok I dont know for sure I wont have any other warnings besides the one in the EVIC with the tire location display.

Has anyone tried this?

Re: Tpms delete....

one snag you may run into is an error message in the evic system as well as the cluster doesnt use your normal bulbs that you would be able to just pull out, they are soldered onto the circuit boards.

Re: Tpms delete....

I first thought about deactivating with a starscan, but it sounds like they can only change the TPM ranges, not deactivate the system entirely (which sounds odd to me...but anyway...)

There are after-market modules that you can buy that can disable the system (eg., Procal for ~$150).

If you are looking to get your hands dirty, I wouldn't bother messing with the cluster - just wire in a bypass. There should be directions floating around on precisely how to do this.

Re: Tpms delete....

Will do the only other idea I had was to toss all give sensors on my spare wheel and in the tire and leave it . ..

Re: Tpms delete....

I had a quick look at the wiring diagrams for the TPMS, and it is little more complicated that I had thought.

While I am sure it would be possible, I would recommend just borrowing/purchasing a tuner that can set your TPMS low value to 0. Then you can remove the sensors without issue.

I have heard of people putting the sensors in a pressurized barrel (similar to your idea of putting them all in the spare)...but that seems like a whole lot of trouble for something that you can just turn off by borrowing the right tool!

Re: Tpms delete....

I will have to see what I can do and look for either a tuner (dyno tune with modifying the pcm) or hand held.

Re: Tpms delete....

Ok so far I have called a few tuners to check their "ability
SCT - no answer
Bully Dog- Not available to adjust tpms
Superchip- Can adjust but only from 26 to 75 psi in 1lb increments
Diablosport- possibly, depending on car more then likely with 08+ but 07 down is "suspect" all tuners have the ability to make the adjustment, its more on how the car
reacts to the information. (Lowest price available is the preditor or the new "intune" ) I got disconnected on this call and the second guy I spoke with was much more sure that it would work. no specific but seemed to think it was around 5psi.

Will update as more calls are made
