so far with my 255s i have ran a 1" spacer, a 1/4" spacer and a 1.5" spacer..
i got the most rubbing with the 1.5" spacer. i couldnt turn the wheel more than half way before it rubbed, so the option to make a u-turn without rubbing wasnt there. also the slightest bump on an on/off ramp i would rub. so i ditched them. the 1" spacer is a good compromise, i dont rub nearly as much as i did with the 1.5" spacer. i can make a u-turn without rubbing, i do get a slight rub when hitting a small bump on an on/off ramp. the tires sit flush with the rear fenders, as for the front they stick out just a hair. the 1/4" is same as the 1" but keeps the tires inside the fenders.
if you want to avoid the pinch weld, 1" spacer or less in my opinion with 255s.
