Who has Bilstein 5100 series shocks that can answer a tech question?

Hello WK people

Hoping someone can shed some light on this topic that has me a little confused.

Bilstein 5100 series shocks are now avail for WK2s and I have a question - hoping someone can answer this.

If we look at the Bilstein 5100 series front shocks now available for the WK2 they have grooves allowing from .4" all the way up to 1.75" of lift via whichever circlip groove the user selects for the spring seat

My question is this: If I am using a 5100 series shock in the front, at say... the lowest setting (yielding a .4" overall lift) IN UNISON with a Eibach Lift Spring that in itself yields a 2" lift.... would the overall lift equate to simply 2.4" ??? Also part 2 of this question - would that shock only be designed to run the OEM spring or is an aftermarket spring totally ok to run in that?

Here is the PDF manual on this part: http://cart.bilsteinus.com/pdfs/E4-WM5-Y447A00.pdf

Bilstein PART NUMBER 24-225434
(again this for the WK2)

They can be used with aftermarket springs and I know some people use them in combination with Old Man Emu lift springs and others.

I personally do not, but my understanding is that you do have to be aware of the combination yes. I would check with the spring manufacturer directly.

I guess not a lot of help to you other than the fact that in principle it is definitely possible, just have to do your homework.

Good luck, hope it works out!

Hey thanks for replying - after some research I agree with what you stated I actually have some Eibach springs now waiting to be installed this weekend to compliment 5100s - should be fine

Sounds great. Glad you found what you were looking for.
You got me thinking of looking into that myself.

Happy Jeeping!
