2005 grand cherokee laredo WIRING issues

I have a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in which I am trying to replace the factory radio with an aftermarket one. I bought the dash kit, harness connector and the anteanna cable. I connected all the corresponding wires and it will not work. It accepts and ejects cds but it will not light up unless I have both the red and yellow wires connected together. It will not shut off even if I take the key out of the ignition and open the door. Also, there is no sound. If someone could please tell me what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix this it would be greatly appreciated!

First question is ...What wiring harness did you use?

A junk one from walmart. That was the problem. Eight bucks don't cut it anymore. The newer model vehicles require something a little more fancy. I spent about a hundred dollars on a harness last night from best buy. It lit right up. All is well thanks!
