To all,

I have a 2005 JGC Limited with a factory installed 6 disk/navigation radio.

As of a few days ago, the LCD screen won't turn on when I start the Jeep but the radio seems to work fine; for the most part. I initially thought that the LCD panel died, but it will randomly work.

I also noticed that when the LCD isn't working, only the volume control works on the steering wheel are operative. The tuner/preset buttons, on the back left of the steering wheel, are non-responsive. Most of the on-radio buttons work with the exception of the tuner knob (lower right).

When the LCD screen does come on, all the steering wheel controls work as well.

Any repair/troubleshooting suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

I had the same problem. This is a common problem w/ these radios. there is a guy on Ebay that offers the repair for it. I sent my radio to him and he sent me a repaired radio- only because he was out of stock of the required parts, otherwise he will repair your radio and send it back to you, in about 5-9 days.
Do a search on Ebay for "jeep rec radio repair". His name is Jimmy Chen and he is in New Jersey. He charges $320 and offers a 6 month warranty. I highly recommend him.
You can always buy a used one, but you may have the same problem w/ that one and then you will be in the same place you are now. I went thru all of the options- repair, used, aftermarket replacement, upgrade to a mygig, and this was the one that i feel was the most practical- as we love the Rec radio.
Hope this helps.
