Ejecting Navigation Disk on 2005 2006 2007 REC Navigation Unit for Jeep Cherokee.

Hi recently bought a 2006 WK. It came with the REC Navigation Unit. How do I remove the Navigation Disk ?. There is a little square hole that looks like a manual eject feature on the "Navigation Disk" door (if its really a door) but unlike a computer drive, pushing an object into the hole does not do anything.

UPDATE: RESOLVED

The Navigation Disk does not eject until you completely remove the little plastic panel marked "Navigation Disk" from the front of the Navigation Unit. ON my system, someone had pushed the latch into the little square hole at the left end of panel labeled "Navigatation Disk" so it was not apparent it is a latch to be pressed downward.

To remove the panel use a fingernail (or a sharp pointed knife if needed) to press down on the little latch inside the square hole at the left end of the "Navigation Disk" Panel . . . then while depressing the latch downward, pull the left end of Panel towards you. Once the left end is pulled out, the right end releases and the panel is free of the Nav Unit. Now, the small "Eject" Button is visible at the right end of DVD slot.

(I found this question on several forums, but the answers were nothing like this)

This is probably because you searched the wrong topics. The REC system isn't MyGIG, and is simply the REC system with a Navteq DVD loaded into it. The MyGIG systems debuted in 2008 with the next generation of GPS systems for Jeeps. Easy way to tell, MyGIG has a touch screen, we don't.

Good luck with the lockpick install. That's out of the price range I'm willing to spend for an OEM solution. I'll buy an aftermarket solution all day for those prices.

I was convinced I was going to do an Alpine, Kenwood or JVC installation for all the features supported, but the installed price for what I wanted got up to 1800-2000 and I would have duplicate antennas installed for Sirius and Nav. I know OEM is primitive compared to the aftermarket units but I mostly wanted my own music library on-board without depending on my phone. Aftermarket systems have great integration with iPhone but I already switched from iPhone to Android to get out of the apple sandbox.

I plan on keeping the Jeep for a while. I hope the RER unit will keep running. PATA hard drives are already hard to get - - I am going to try to duplicate the disk to a PATA SSD disk I have sitting here with DD sector duplication. Probably won't work, but its fun trying.

Wow $2k installled...is exactly why I'd do the install myself. The hardest thing for me would be getting the METRA harness hooked up so that I could continue to use the factory BA amp (from which my LOC feeds from for the sub). I could probably be out the door for $500-800 for everything I want.
